On our way. 3pm today. Me in a Lanny towing a 3.5t trailer. Sian poodling along behind. 20 miles away from Peterborough on a fast road, Sian shouts on the radio that she’s lost power. 2018 Auto 6spd Ducato. As she starts off, it changes quickly to 4th and dies with no revs. She’s managed to nurse it into a layby. Now awaiting RAC who have said 6:30pm earliest. I’ve left her, dropped the trailer at the Showground and just going to turnaround and keep her company.

I’m not kipping in the Lanny with my dog, so if it can’t be fixed at the roadside, I’ll be going home! What a bummer.

Any ideas what it might be?

Transmission auto fluid level?

Comfomatic's often throw wobblies often turning ignition off for ten minutes resets it. But a bit awkward with a fault like as you yould need to drive it to see it it's sorted.

I might be talking out of the proverbial but:
I thought the comfomatic had an option to manually hold and select gears.

A bit more info would help. Suddenly on acceleration or just sluggish from the start? If the van has been parked up a while, the turbo waste gate could be sticky or water in the fuel filter

Most rescue services come out quicker if it’s a lone female. Hope you get it sorted quickly. (y)

Shame you don't have a OBD2 dongle with you. They can quite often give you valuable info. How far away are you? I have one in my glove box.

Good luck with the RAC Jim I hope they sort you out and your soon on your way !

Good luck with the RAC took them 16 hours to get us from Chester to Hull and 9 hours for the last 46 miles. Have to say firt time they have failed us but a monumental fail too

Not sure it's wise to tow any auto, even the robotised auto of comfortmatic. And if 20 miles that's a long way even if allowed without damage on back of a tow rope :(

As a comfortmatic owner I have to say these sort of things don't inspire confidence especially as I approach 4 years old. I was accidentally reading manual last weekend (I was trying to find a fuse for powering dashcam) and realised there are servicing requirements to check at 2 years and change at 4 years the hydraulic fluids on the comfortmatic. I wonder how many garages do this. Even the check wasn't mentioned in the 3 year service plan I had from new with my dealer.

I went back and put Sian in the Lanny. Gave up waiting g for the RAC I managed to limp it to the Showground. We’re parked up and it’s a problem for another day now. (y)
I’ll bring a code reader for you 👍
