Morning All,
This message is NOT of interest to Funsters who use and know the intricacies of the 'Inbox' or 'Alert' Sections of MHF. Having said that, there is something in here which many of you may find of use!
This is a message to all those Funsters who, for varying reasons, either don't visit our wonderful site on a regular basis or do not have a P.H.D. in applied surfing of MHF and are worried should they 'click' on an unknown section and will fall down a big bad cyberspace hole.
As a Steward of a forthcoming Rally, I have to respond to peeps who send me a message re their attendance at a rally. It usually happens when a Funster, having put their name down for a Rally, wishes to cancel. Note; Funsters should send a 'Conversation' when they wish to tell me this and not on the thread of the Rally itself. That way, it will be noticed quicker. HINT!!!
I, in turn have to communicate with them and send a message to someone on the Reserve List to give them the news that they have been elevated onto the Rally.
This is where the 'Inbox' comes into it's own. Old timers on here use the phrase "P.M." This stands for private message. The current parlance for such a message is a "Conversation" and it is created in the "Inbox"
The 'Conversation' is exactly that. It is a private chat in a format that is private. It cannot be seen by any others and consequently should be seen as a good place to give information that may be seen as confidential.
Case in point: As a Steward I give Funsters my Bank details in order that they can send me deposits or final payments for a rally. I have no problem with this as all I am giving them is exactly and no more what is on a Cheque ie Name Account No. and Sort Code. In turn, I may ask Funsters for their details to return funds following a cancellation of attendance.
Here comes the Help:
Keep your eyes peeled on the DARK BLUE strip towards the top of a page. On the right hand side you will find the words 'Inbox' and 'Alert'. If there is a RED Flag above the 'Inbox' it means that someone is trying to have a 'Conversation' with you. Click on it and read the contents.
You may find a RED Flag on the Alert. Usually it means that a Funster has read something to which you have made a comment and has 'clicked' one of the Icons at the bottom of your Input, but, there is another 'Alert' that is created when a Funster wishes to bring something to YOUR attention in an open Forum. They do this by putting the symbol @ in front of your 'handle' or name. That will create an 'Alert' for you to read and perhaps direct you to a course of action.
So, if you see a RED Flag on these two symbols on the BLUE line. Don't ignore them. Someone is trying to tell you something and it's invariably to your advantage to read them.
Thank you for having the stamina in reading the above
