Don't own one yet
We are going to view a Weinsberg Cara Suite MB65 Meg Mercedes Auto with Hot Pepper pack . Does anyone on here own a Weinsberg? What is the build quality like? We have looked at other brands but this suits our needs and has a Mercedes engine and cab which to us seems better than Fiat/Ford for similar money we are looking at spending.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

I’m sure a few on here have one and will be along soon, we have the Knaus which is the same company and we’re very happy with ours and the build quality. Like every van we’ve had small issues, they’ve been nothing to do with Knaus or build quality and all sorted within a few weeks of happening.

I don’t have one but have been looking at them as they seem to be very good value

But all seem to come in at 3500kg GVW even the A class which is somewhere between impractical and impossible 🤔

Definitely agree with you about the Mercedes but though 👍

indeed... .. the payload on that model ex-works is only 383kg

without any extras..

2 x adults, ~~ 140kg, Fuel 50kg , LPG 22 kg and Fresh water 100kg and that's it almost used up .. + bedding, clothes food etc etc .. could be over weight

Interestingly I opened your link and then an option to build your own , you have to accept this page to continue 🤔

I wasn’t challenging your answer, but if you open my link , to continue with creating a spec you have to agree that you understand about the law and GVW 🙄
no problem, but I I didn't get that far.. just read the GVW .. and thought... no way

The payload on the one we are looking at is 514kg bottom one on this link. Do you think this will be enough? Total weight of my wife and I is around 150kg, We would take two electric bikes which would add another 50kg approx and the rest of the normal gear needed for a motorhome. on occasion we may take our youngest adult daughter or one of the grandchilden.

If you have a C1 license ask if it can be uprated, this is mainly a paper exercise and should be free when new.

Looks like a nice van. The only thing I would be wary of is that the drop down bed blocks the hab door at night.

For us 514kg payload would work but for other people it might not be enough.

It states 'Up to 514kg'. Before going any further I'd demand that the seller physically weighs the vehicle with you present to determine precisely what the vehicle weight and therefore payload actually is. +/- 5% covers a lot of KG...good and bad.
Is the Hot Pepper pack weight included in the figures they give...or an addition?

Add a tank of water, food, bottle of wine/beer/water/juice etc and I'd say 514kg would be a close run thing....and I'd think adding another person would take you over the 3500kg limit. (Just my opinion)

bear in mind that is ex works.. won't include any factory extras you may have ordered, fuel, say 50kg , fresh water 100kg ..

it could be done but very tight ..

Will ask the question when we go at view in Sunday as have C1
Hi Anika . You should be able to uprate it. I have the CaraCompact Meg 60 Pepper , Mercedes 170hp 9 speed auto. It’s for sale with Simon Select . When I bought it it was rated at 4200 but I had it downplated to 3500 as I had my C1 taken away when I became disabled. The payload now is just short of 500. I had it weighed with the second leisure battery, solar, gas low system with 2 full bottles that I had fitted, so ex factory it would have been more than 500. The build quality is very good. Solid, well put together. You can look at it on the Select Motorhomes website. Only reason we are selling is because we are giving up motorhoming due to my health.

Thank you for your reply and so sorry you are having to give up your motorhome. The one we are looking at is the same apart from it has a pull down bed so sleeps 4 and has the 150hp 9 Speed Auto. Comes with a Pepper pack and a lot of extras and is just over £80k new (Lot of the Ford & Fiat based were similar money to this). Glad to hear the build quality is very good.

We hired a 3 month old one 3 years ago for a week's holiday and I lost count of the number of faults that came up in the week that we had it. Most of the faults were poor workmanship, battens falling off, screws falling out, side window blinds falling off.
I personally wouldn't touch one with a bargepole!

We have a Wiensberg Cara compact. Never had any problems with it decent build quality, and it’s got a huge payload, 880 kg, It’s reliable, great to drive ticks most of our boxes.
How come the payload is so high? Did you have the plate weight increased?

They come in with a 4200 weight. I had mine down plated to 3500 and had it weighed. It was 3060, so if you add a tank of fuel and water, you would easily still have 800 on the original factory weight

As Norfolk Nige says. Ours is 3500 kgs with a large payload.

Can I ask what the normal running weight for it is and what the payload is ? Is it a Merc based Cara? (Our first MoHo is a Chausson and feels a bit lacking in quality. does everything we need but can't help feeling we'll 'upgrade' for better quality at some point)

It’s a Fiat based Cara compact. I’m away until Monday so I’ll get you the details when I get home.

The one I am selling at Select Motorhomes is a Mercedes. 170hp, 9 speed auto with only 3000 on the clock. It’s plated at 3500 and has 440kg payload. It was weighed with two gas bottles, two leisure batteries, solar panels etc in addition to its ex factory kit. It was originally plated at 4200 but I had to have it downplated as DVLCtook away my C1 when I advised them of my disability. They are a good quality van.

We have a fiat based Caracompact edition pepper at 3500. Payload was a major reason for purchase plus build quality is excellent. I weighed it on return from 6 weeks in France last year : at exactly 3500! Full of fuel, 30 litres of water, 2 persons, 10 bottles of wine fridge half full, lots of dirty washing and one 10kg bike. I was a little surprised and will be very careful next trip if we take 2 bikes. We tend to empty the home fridge into the van plus carry a few frozen meals for first few days ( the fridge/freezer is excellent even on Hull- Rotterdam crossing). We have Thule side and front awning panels plus steel spare wheel which all add up! Nevertheless we are very happy with it.

We have fiat based cara compact pepper, looked at the mercedes cab but preferred the fiat as it seemed lighter inside. Had quite a few issues tbh and the finish build quality of the internal trims is poor. Bought September 2022 and emailed Knaus after keep chasing original dealer (who were awful) and reply was pretty uninterested tbh so wont be buying another knaus. If there was a proper dealer check before handover then we wouldnt of had these issues and all other aspects are great. Only advice is be wary of purchasing dealer and you will be perfectly happy with the pepper edition.

Payload issues apart, I owned a Weinsberg for 6 years and (for a budget brand) I’d say the build quality was fine. Special editions are good value.
