As posted elsewhere we got SV TECH to uprate our van from 3650 to 4000 and sent off V5 with the paperwork on 5th August. This is a revenue weight only upgrade as we are already over 3500 so was thinking it's going to be back within a week.

We are away at present so been checking online and it's still showing as 3750 with the last V5 change as 16th may when it was registered.

Just wondering how long others have waited before I chase them. I sent V5 by 1st class post so hoping they haven't lost it.

Mine was back within 10 days when up plating from 3650kg to 4250kg. I did send it by Royal Mail Special Delivery and included a letter to request that F.1 Max Permissible Mass was also amended to ensure conformity if the V5 was inspected abroad.

SV said to only ask for revenue weight change. It's August so I guess people on holiday, I'll wait till I'm home then call them once I check the post.

Did you have to pay a fee to DVLA or just all the paperwork to them?

Waiting for ours too
DVLA have had it six weeks, sent signed for post,itā€™s a weight up grade. S V Tech have done the paperwork and provided a new weight plate for the Van so just need to issue a new V5
Have phoned and messaged them, ā€œ Very busy, thousands of applications ever dayā€
Wonā€™t / Canā€™t give any idea on time scale, the web site suggests 2~4 weeks
Asked if could be given priority, as we travel to Greece next week, eventually said they would ā€œput. Marker on itā€. Probably saying, ā€œput tjis at the back of the queue
So difficult to deal with
Grrrr

I have a plate
So have we but plod will look at the V5C first and may only accept the info on that, it should all be correct to ensure no confusion, ambiguity etc especially when trying to communicate with foreign plod.

Yes and revenue weight but I'll se what comes back as there's no place on V5 to change anything else.

I have a MAN TGE which has been up-plated from 3500Kg to 4200Kg by VWE. The DVLA have changed the Gross permissible weight t0 4200Kg but refuse to change the Revenue weight and insist that it must stay as N1 Category. BUT International standards say that N1 has a maximum gross weight of 3500Kg. Also must stay as PLG for VED rate.
I have submitted a complaint but that came back refusing to budge so I've pursued the complaint to level 2 quoting various International and UK Government documents relating to N1 Category and Motor Homes being classed as 'Special Vehicles'. Time will tell where this ends up!

I had a little thought whilst bowling along a normal main road, if I am over 3500Kg I should be limited to 50MPH but as the DVLA insist that I am still PLG then I cannot be over 3500Kg so can do 60MPH.
Now that could be an interesting argument to put before a judge if I had been doing over 50MPH and charged with a speeding offence.
Don't you love the DVLA?

Ours took six weeks to come back. They sent me SV Tech letter back quite quickly so I did call them to check all ok and they said it will be six weeks. (4000kg to 4500kg)

Normally a few weeks if they get it right but they often get it wrong then it takes a few months to get it sorted.

In the UK the applicable speed limit is based on the unladen weight not the revenue weight. Seems daft but that is the law. If the unladen weight exceeds 3050kg the lower speed limit applies. My V5C shows a weight in service figure of 2935kg which is less than 3050kg so I think I am ok at the higher speeds.

If the change you want to make is not covered on the form you have add notes to the vehicle details section. The form covers Revenue weight but you need to change the Max. permissible mass in the Vehicle details section. The official advice says.
ā€œIf the change is not listed in section 1 or 7, add notes to the ā€˜vehicle detailsā€™ section instead. Send it to DVLA with evidence and a letter explaining the change.ā€

We uprated our van from 3300 to 3500 via SV Tech. When the DVLA returned the V5 they had only changed the revenue weight. I asked them to amend the maximum permissible weight but they said they can only alter the revenue weight. We got checked by police in the UK on a random check who queried the differing weights. Luckily we were under 3300 so no issues. The police officer suggested recontacting the DVLA as the V5 is showing incorrect details. I wrote to them quoting the officer and we got an amended V5 returned within a couple of weeks.

I sent mine by Special Delivery. After three weeks of no reply I rang. They told me we wasted our money sending Special Delivery as it was signed for by a Post Office three miles away then thrown into a bag with all other post for delivery.

Eight weeks, no progress, phoned several times, ā€œ they are very busyā€ told but they will ā€œmark itā€ whatever that means, that was 3 weeks ago, up plate paperwork done by SV tech everything in order.
Have had to travel to Europe without it, Lucky I took a photo copy before sending it away, and have new weight plate fixed to engine, still terrible that it takes so long. So frustrating

Confirms my suspicion that the case workers at the DVLA don't have a clue what they are doing!

4th year done and counting!
Just 2 weeks before we got the V5 back from DVLA, the whole process from enquiring to completion was only 4 weeks through Van Weight Engineering.

It's a waste of time ringing them, put a complaint in on their online system.
Or at least use the 'chat' system so that you can have a written record of what was said.
