good afternoon
Our new to us van is plated as 3850 & that’s what I thought I’d bought.

However when the new v5 arrived it’s listed a PLG. Road tax was £325pa. It’s a 2001 fiat 2.8 turbo.

I was going to get it down plated to 3500kg anyway to make use easier as next birthday is 70.
In prep for this I’d taken it to weigh station, half tank of fuel & water, plus me. Total 3120.

does this mean it’s already been downplated by some previous owner?
Is there any way of finding out?
Should I bother?

Cheers

What does the V5 say? It should correspond with the most recent plate on your vehicle.

Thanks for that
the V5 says PLG
there are several plates & I’m going to try to get a pic of each

When I mentioned having a look at your V5, I was thinking that on Page 2, line F1, the Maximum Permissible Mass should be shown and I am presuming this should be the same on your most recent plate. No doubt someone with a better understanding than me will correct me if this is not how it should be.

Not all v5 have the max permitted mass filled in but it should the revenue weight

Hi guys
well in section b page 2 apart from the vin, engine number & colour it’s all blank

Section A has taxation class is listed as PRIVATE/LIGHT GOODS(PLG)

revenue weight is also empty

Need to look at the plates on the vehicle, there will be two three.
The chassis plate, the converters plate and an Al-Ko one if an Al-Ko chassis.
If it was 3850 and has been down plated there should be yet another plate. Last plate fitted takes president.

Ok
ive. Had a good search over the van & found two plates In engine bay.
one Fiat , which is mostly blank, just vin no.
one alko which lists the weight as 3850, plus axel weights etc.
no others found, yet!

so Should the taxation class be PHGV if it’s still officially over 3.5t? (Much less tax)

do DVLA send out a new plate when reduced to 3.5t Or is it left to the owner to get one made?

No dvla will not provide a plate it’s the owner’s responsibility

Keep hunting there should be a converters plate somewhere, often just a sticker in door jamb

If its been downplated the previous owner may not have actually stuck the new plate on, it could be with the handbook/paperwork. They could also have stuck it somewhere unusual, like mine, in the side of the passenger seat base.

.... and keep in mind it may be a paper sticker you're looking for.
