Evening All,

Would anyone happen to know where you can find a weigh bridge these days? We've recently bought a motorhome and need to find out what its dry weight is and, also what it is after cramming in all our gear . I've done some searching around on Google and nothing seems to come up. We're in the South London/Epsom area if anyone can help out?

Cheers all

Google public weighbridge.
Then try scrap yards or waste disposal sites.
I use my local Seed storage depot.

After trying our local council for public a weigh bridge I took our motorhome to a local scrap metal centre.
They charged me a tenner that I am sure went in there tea fund because it was cash only.

Go to a place in Chichester that deal in grain, just drive on pay £10 and he gives me a ticket.
Would be a bit cautious about scrap yards especially if you have to drive inside some of them as a lot of metal bits laying around in the floor on the ones I’ve been into with my scrap.

They'll actually pay you to use it if you can find a scrap radiator to drop off.

Most places will weigh free if you don't want a ticket.

I agree about being wary about scrap yards but the one I used has the weigh bridge outside. The idea is they weigh you’re vehicle loaded before you go in and re weigh it afterwards. The instructions said go into reception before using the weigh bridge so I stayed out of there yard.
There is a large VOSA test centre just down the road from us but trying to book on to there weigh bridge was via a web site that I couldnt get into.

I've used one at a recycling centre( scrapyard) and one at a quarry. The scrappy was about £6 the quarry was free.

I have similar problems to the OP, not too many scrap yards or quarries in SW London/Surrey and the find a weigh bridge link just takes you to the local authority which is a dead end. I haven't tried any yet, but some people suggested builders yards as they weigh their lorries before deliveries or refuse sites?

Local authority recycling centre at Blenheim Rd Epsom has a weighbridge but do not know if it is available for public use.

That would be handy for me. Where are they based please and do I need to phone first?

Try the local council recycling/household waste centre.

Most have weighbridges for the commercial vehicles that dump off building or garden waste.

We went to our local one (Nathan Way, London SE18) and they gave me an overall weight for free.
If you want a certificate, or to get individual axel weights, then it's £15.

I rang the one in Cardiff and asked if they could weigh mine.
I was told yes £24.
I then asked could you give me individual axle weights.
I was told yes just drop the axles off and we will weigh them individually.
When I said but they are attached to the vehicle I was told I'd have to remove them to get their weights 🤣

We used to use one at a nearby grain handler. They’d accept £10 in cash and weigh both axles. Then they stopped offering this service. So nearest one is a scrap metal dealer. Last year they charged £10 per axle. This year, we’re going on Tuesday and they are charging £15 per axle. Cash only of course! I’m minded to say I’m from HM Revenue’s Cash Business Investigation Service.😡😀

Thanks all for getting back. I'll try the local recycling centre on Blenheim rd, Epsom in the first instance

When I took my 27 year old m/h for weighing to the local scrap metal yard the guy at the gate stopped me and said: "Sorry mate, we don't take vehicles".
How we laughed.

Reminds me of when I went into the Datsun dealer in Caversham. I said "Do you have a petrol cap for a 120Y?"

Chap at the parts counter said "Ok, fair exchange!"

How we laughed.

Hi all,
There is a weigh bridge next to the recycling depot in Epsom (Suez 01372 728722). They charge £36 and seem to be open 7 days a week.
Hope this helps somebody else.
Cheers
