Weber gas Go- Anywhere bbq adaptor for any gas bottle

I recently bought a Weber Gas Go-Anywhere BBQ that comes with its own built-in regulator. It only accepts gas screw on canisters and I want to be able to use a Camping gas 907 canister or indeed any gas bottle - especially when I am in Spain. Weber do do an adaptor kit but it is designed to be coupled to a Calor patio gas bottle and it is not quick release and has to be screwed on to the Weber BBQ every time you set it up. (plus it costs approx £40)

After much research and with little help from any BBQ specialist outlets ("this BBQ can only be used in the UK") I has found a Napoleon Adaptor kit (TQ285X 66288 approx £10) that screws onto the thread for the gas canisters on the Weber and a Cadac Quick Release Hose Nozzle approx £10) then screws onto the Left Hand Thread on the back of the Napolean Adaptor. The other end of the quick release has a standard 8mm tail that will push into a standard rubber gas pipe. If this does not make sense please see the photo attached.

I can now use the quick release to easily attach the gas to the Weber BBQ and I can attach the other end of the rubber pipe to what ever gas bottle I wish to use.

I hope this will help someone who is struggling just as I was.

Absolutely fine doing it that way, so long as you ensure the screw on adaptor is fitted tightly

I converted our cadac to quick release, with the other end of the hose having another quick release and a choice of made up ends. a bullfinch adaptor for the side of the van and a bottletop regulator so I can run it of a cylinder in the garden

I realise this that this thread is really old! However, this is exactly the issue I have. I have trawled the internet for the suggested Napoleon 66288 adapter but cant't seem to find it in stock anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions (UK based). Cheers Sean

I see that BedsBBQ, where I bought my Napoleon TravelQ from, are listing it but out of stock at the moment. They’re big stockists of Napoleon products so maybe drop them an email?

Are you planning to run the appliance from an unregulated gas supply? Reason I’m asking is because if you’re connecting it to a MoHo outlet or a cylinder with a regulator, it’s not going to perform well due to the appliance regulator being supplied at the already reduced pressure.

Something that I learned when sorting out this problem was how to tell if a nut was a left hand thread. Left hand threads should have a grove cut around the middle of the "nut" where the spanner goes. This can be seen in the photo attached to the original post on the middle part. I can also confirm what Orion stated above - one regulator feeding a second regulator is a no go! I can recommend Hamilton Gas Products Ltd as they have a great range of products. Unfortunately, I did not find a single shop/supplier that would give advice as it is gas that is being used and safety is involved.

Hope you get the parts you require as it make the Go Anywhere BBQ so much more usable and affordable to use.

Thanks for your response. You make a very good point which I hadn't thought of regarding the issue with 2 regulators on the system. It did raise another question though. Weber offer the official WGA conversion kit. This has what looks like a standard Patio gas snap on regulator on the end of it. Apart from the extortionate price they want for it this is no good to me as I run my pizza oven & big BBQ off quick release couplings from a standard 13kg propane (Calor) gas bottle. So is this "regulator" on the official product a dummy? I thought that I was being smart with the idea of running my WGA off the large propane tank whilst at home rather than the disposable C500 cartridges.

maybe this is not possible unless purchase a patio gas tank & the official Weber conversion kit. This rather defeats the object of what I had planned!

I think it all depends on how you already connect your appliances to the the existing cylinder and how far you want to go to connect this one to it.

On the presumption that your propane cylinder has a regulator on it? If so then you’ll have to disconnect it, obtain a direct connection POL hose and then attach it to the Weber as per your original idea - doing away with any QD between appliances. A bit of a faff, and it does away with the quick switch between appliances, or even the ability to run them in tandem, but doable if you think it’s worth it?

As you state, it is not quick release, as the hose requires screwing into the weber.
However, I purchased the weber calor hose connector (as shown by BBQ Sean), some quick release gas connectors and a spare bullfinch connector.
I cut the hose about 6" from the screw connector and fitted a male quick release connector. Again, 6" from the calor connector, I cut and fitted a male quick release connector. I also used 6" of hose and a male quick release connector on the bullfinch connector.
With 2 metres of new hose and a couple of female quick release connectors, I can now connect the Weber to the van, to a calor bottle or use weber gas bottles. Not had to worry about european connectors, but they could be dealt with in the same way.
With only a 6" hose on the weber, I can leave this on all the time and still quickly connect to the adaptor hoses.
As the weber is pressure regulated, the bullfinch is regulated via the on board alugas bottles and the calor gas connector is regulated, there are no problems with pressure to the weber.
I have been using this system at home and on the van for the past two years with no problems.
