Following recent 3 months in Spain have sold our Motorhome and looking at future options.

Very disillusioned this year at the sites that we have visited for many years with their new policies regarding pitch etiquette. We have seen in many sites that I won't name the way the Spanish occupy pitches and, in my opinion, make it like 'Shanty Town'.

Not being snobbish but I don't want to pitch up next to some of these as on one site I viewed Rats running under the heap of a caravan into the awning.

You feel that they may try and enter your unit next, ah no thanks.

From what was confirmed at a site near Benidorm they are charging the Spanish €1 per night to keep their caravan on a pitch and then they charge the full rate when being occupied, and that poses another, at one site a couple arrived opposite us with two children, no problem. But later another couple with two children followed by another couple.

Must have been cosy in that caravan with six adults and four kids.

This was pointed out to the management and yes you guessed it they did nothing.

I have pictures showing how they fill the pitches, firstly carpet the full pitch, then place a S***** Old Caravan on it, large awning, plastic sheeting stuck to caravan where it leaks and as many other tents that can be fitted on the pitch, not to mention the wind break bolted and screwed to the kerb edge.

Oh' I forgot the patio or wooden door in the awning.

I'm sure that many of you have seen this in the past, however this seems to be more prevalent this year and I've had enough, so bye bye camping in Spain, I think that you will soon 'Kill the Goose that laid the Golden Egg'

Looks like Camping Lo Monte in Plaja de Horadada?

Strange reason to give just because you don't like a few sites, plenty of other sites.
We mostly use Aires and Camper Stops you don't get that problem on those.

You can’t judge all sites from that site. Yes there are sites like that but we have stayed on a lot of sites throughout Spain and they have never been like that one. But then we have never stayed in Benidorm. (y)

Why the reliance on Spain? We visited Spain for the third time in 20 years and, while we loved the country, we didn’t like the sites. Many of the Aires, (stop overs), were over crowded.

We decided that we wouldn’t go back. Other people love Spanish sites.

However, there is a whole world out there. On Sunday we are heading to Northern France. If the weather is poor we will head to southern France. If there are still fuel problems in France we will head to Germany.

There is a whole world out there.

It’s a shame that you’ve sold your MH. I think that the whole point of a motorhome is that you can go wherever it suits your style of camping. If you pull in somewhere and you don’t like it just move somewhere else.

The site in the photos you’ve posted looks really dire. Surely you could have found something nicer?

Fair enough but we prefer a secure site with all amenities, each to their own!

This was Lo Monte an absolutely beautiful site with all amenities but this lake many others we found is being spoilt by going down this path.

We visited 7 sites on this year's trip and 5 had adopted the same policy.

Sometimes you just want to give something up but need to find justification for it.
Not at all, just don't want rats and rubbish around. Is this what camping is all about I don't think so!!

I love Spain and its people. I prefer a site with as many amenities as possible and prepared to pay for it. In doing so I don't expect this.

Fair enough, I always have had that philosophy that if something stops being enjoyable then quit it.

the changes have clearly affected your desire to be a motorhomer. what will be on the cards for travel now.

Sorry but I don’t see anything wrong with this. To me it’s making the best use possible of the plot. Some folk may have to holiday with other members in order to afford a holiday. Too much time on your hands to bother photographing the plots, plenty other sites to choose from.

4 hours was enough for us never to want to go back.

sites as pictured are too close and cramped for me, but, each to our own!
We would just move on.

I would have to be completely disillusioned and see absolutely no alternative to give up the motorhome.

These look more to me like “seasonal” set-ups” rather than touring pitches.
Are you saying that these once available touring pitches have now been turned over to semi-permanent residency by the site owners?
Seem to remember something similar about UK brits setting up similar in such places as Benidorm, and putting down flooring, proper windows and doors in “awning” constructions”, and even fitting out these “rooms” with various electrical appliances.
Only to eventually be told by the Spanish authorities that they don’t own the land and this type of adaptation was not allowed.
But what do I know🤗?

There are still many full facility sites elsewhere in Europe that are less crowded and more pleasant.

However, you have made your decision.
