Hi all.
Will be dropping the "ever" after this post. Will have to think of a monica to use.
Anyway, on with it.
FIRST, Lodge farm Spofforth (Harrogate), 78miles from home.
YORKSHIRE.
Grass pitches, no EHU, field nearly flat but with undulations.
Luckily got wheels in "undles" so level enough☺.
Toilets/shower/potwashing all good. For £15 A night not bad.
Walked 35 minutes into village via Spofforth castle.
Couple of takeaways but we don't normally do them so can't comment.
Enjoyed 2 nights there, internet reception good so streamed stuff into our Chromebook when finished playing cards/ monopoly.
Hot and sunny, couple cans Guinness, chilled out .....sorted.
Would we visit again, YES.
SECOND, Little Stryne, Borrowash near Derby, 88 miles.
DERBYSHIRE.
Getting there was a pain, roadworks on A1M for barriers then later for bridge repairs. Will avoid them in future.
Site was lovely, surrounded by streams and plenty of shrubbery round the perimeter. Pitches were generous. No shower but separate toilets. Men's were Ok, just. But ladies had a bit of a flood on floor and light pull cord was minging.
Short walk into Borrowash but we walked 20 minutes to Elvaston castle country park, nice few hours there.
Hot and sunny yet again Enjoyed our 2 nights, internet good.
£10 a night, cheapest yet.
Would we go again, Yes but would use our own toilet.
THIRD, Seven gorge park, Telford; Shropshire. 62miles.
Roads were good, it was Sunday, AND took a route through Uttoxeter and Stafford to avoid M6 toll. It was a shorter route but possibly took longer as it was countryside type roads.
Site was set back from road, nice and quiet but pitches small.
Not a prob though, of the 10 pitches there was never more than 5 in use, we were there for 5 nights.
Toilets/showers/pot washing were clean and OK to use.
Internet good, £25 a night which included £3 for EHU but we didn't need it but no choice!!!
We had pass plus for Blist Hill museums. They are spread about a bit so we used the buses although need to time it right as the routes we used were just hourly.
Visited the tile museum, China museum, iron museum, Enginuity and the main attraction....Victorian town.
They were all worth visiting but the town was the best.
Got fish and chips at the VIctorian toen, cooked in beef fat, wish we hadn't botheted. Fish was just whiting and chips had been out a while just kept warm.
HOWEVER, We are used to our "local" Beamish open air museum; a street mile ahead of Blist Hill.
Would we go again, yes if we were heading that way and only if our pass plus was still valid.
FOURTH, Narrow bridge cottage, Retford, Notts. 103 miles.
Again took roads to avoid toll road.
Site was grass only but level enough. EHU available but we didn't need it so only £15 a night.
Toilets OK but wood building is a dingy dark brown inside with poor lighting. Shower was OK. Plenty hot water, £1 payable by way of honesty box.
Had a 15 minute walk along canal towpath but was a bit too overgrown and better half got nettled. Got to the Boat inn and looked at menu posted outside. Didn't fancy what was in offer so had a walk along the road back in direction we came from, 35 minutes to The Kings head. Had a pint of 2 of Guinness, locals were chatty. But Kings head doesn't do food. Got bus into Retford, nice market town, also canal to have a walk long.
We would go again, yes.
Next, home, 135 miles.
Happy Jack.
PS how do I attach photos, posting this using my Fire tablet which has access to my E mail's which has all the photos of the trip.
