Dear All,
I‘m hoping someone can help please?

We had a water softener installed in our home. (We live in an extremely high limescale area.)

Does anyone know if it is ok to use this softened water in the water tank in the motorhome, or should we fill with un-softened? We have a hose pipe for the garden which is straight off the mains before the softened water.

Thank you all in advance

I ought to have mentioned the water softener does use salt, however it is not a fantastic amount.

Not a problem, so does ours :giggle:

I would add that we don't drink water straight out of the tank.

I use pure water which we get from a pump at a local outlet. The company is called SpotlessWater. It's the same stuff window cleaners use. We are in a very hard water area so I like to avoid the mains supply when possible. Obviously when we are over the channel we can't fill up. We don't use it for drinking water only for washing/shower etc.

We fill with softened water. Don't drink from the onboard tank, but no issues with drinking from the tap at home.
There is no salt in softened water

The salt is to clean the chamber out, it does not soften the water. We always fill the MH with soft water, we have 2 outside taps one hard for garden, one soft for car washing etc. We don't drink the water from the MH tank but soft water is OK to drink it just tastes a bit different. We use soft water in kettle, coffee machine and for cooking.

Should be ok, but remember if your running with a full water tanks its heavy stuff 1 litre weighs 1kg so your weight capacity could be affected. Also once you've used your first tank its pot luck regarding water hardness from the on, so overall it will not be a big difference, except of course you never travel further than one tank load from home

Softened water is not normally recommended for drinking, although it isn't going to kill you especially if consumed only now and again

The salt is used to create a brine which is used to regenerate the ion exchange resin within the softener.

Here you go

I am assuming that’s what you have.
