Have been toying with the idea of installing a water filter in our van basically to give us a better tasting water and help with reducing micro bacteria. So have been looking at a Micro Hiflo 10 Flostream filter and thinking about installing this between the fresh water tank and our surflo pump, so that all the water is filtered in the van.
The filter has a flow rate up to 10 LPM and the pump works at 6.8LPM and the pressure range for the pump works okay with the filter.
Has anyone fitted one of these filters and if so how have they performed? Also would you thing the addition of the filter in the system would compromise the pumps performance with the added resistance of the filter?

Thanks.

Interesting, I'd be tempted to look at this too I have to admit but note it's 45 quid for a new cartridge, cant find any information on how often they should be changed.

PaulC70.
Filters to be changed annually or 3000 litres. Just that some I had looked at were every 6 months.

So you are thinking about fitting the filter as soon after the pump / tank as possible, I think that's what you are saying? So, it would be filtering shower, bathroom tap and kitchen tap?

Yes installing Filter before pump so everything filtered. Thought about just installing one under the kitchen sink but really no difference in cost to install this prior to pump and since it’s going to be installed in the garage gives us better access to it rather than being installed under the sink unit.

The flow rate on these are to low to install prior to the pump. Would think okay if you are just fitting below sink, but it’s a quite tall unit for below my sink looks okay if you have the room.

I would look to fit after the pump as although the sureflow is self priming, it does not have great suction. The best pressure is after the pump so it pushes water through the filter

I bought this filter and filter housing along with this tap and other bits and bobs to install them for just under £100.

Filters last for 12 months and replacements are £35 and remove pretty well everything.

This line made me wonder though

"Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system."

So, I'd have thought the idea was I could filter the tap water we get at sites / standing taps etc. If Im going to have to disinfect the water with some aquasol or whatever then is there any point getting a filter?

I was googling this and beginning to like it until I saw it's only 3 litre per minute.
Is that a problem? - we use it just for drinking water, tea and coffee etc in a separate tap - use the other taps for everything else. Never thought it was slpwto fill our kettle.

Occasionally I put tablets in the fresh water tank to make sure it is OK and the filter always removes any trace of taste so we like it

I guess my only thought would be if it was to slow the shower more than it already is to be honest.

I queried that when I spoke to John at DWF, and basically, it means do not fill your tank with pond water or a dubious source that will contain high levels of faeces and the like.
My concern was that the filter would remove any bacteria that was likely present in the water in our tank that had stood for several weeks between trips which it will.

Its on a separate pipe with its own tap so it doesn't affect any other flow
Yeah, my problem is that my fridge sits right in front and under the sink, I'd hate to think of the hassle of fitting it only to the kitchen sink.

Hmmmm, that's a tad awkward, the filter itself is not large and they are easy to change but you do need to get two hands to it

Looks interesting but a bit confused about the quote?

I covered this in my post #15. (y)

Edit: I see you found it while I was typing.

Hello, I'm new to the forum and I came here specifically to discuss this topic, so I hope you don't mind me piggybacking on this thread. I have a new Knaus Boxstar and it's time to replace the filter which is a BWT Bestcamp MINI Filter, and at 130+ euros it's a no go for me, so it got me thinking about alternatives.

Do any of you have concerns or read anything about bacteria building up inside of these filters (the ones that last 6+ months)? Probably much less of an issue when a filter is installed in your kitchen at home where the water is flowing more regularly and also your kitchen isn't exposed to the deadly heat of summer like the camper is.

Siiva,
Have just ordered a Flowstream Micro along with an Accumulator, but iam intending to filter all the water in the van that we are using. Not worried about bacteria build up as we use our van most of the year. The way iam thinking is you change the filter every 3000Ltrs, so that's 30 tank fill ups. If the van is going to stand for a period I would drain the system and remove the filter, dry it out and store it in a air tight bag.

What's an accumulator?

I have had a whale Aqua-source carbon water filter installed in the cold water feed to the kitchen tap and works fine.

FWIW I see the Flostream filters down to 10 microns, and the General Ecology which ceejayt mentioned and quite a few here use for drinking water filters to 0.4 microns.

I've used four of the Seagull IV filters, since the 90s, and got a fifth waiting to go into our motorhome. Tap water tastes better than bottled water.

Not really suitable for filtering all the water though.

If you're using non-mains or questionable water supply, how about filtering it as you fill the tank?
