Got a speeding fine through the post this morning from the Ministerio del Interior, Espana. Clocked in February, speed 80 klm in a 60 klm zone on A384. 100 euros fine, but 50 euros if paid within 20 days. Can't argue, just paid up.

Hard luck. :(
At least €50 is not too bad, as long as you can pay within the 20 days.
I have often strayed over the limits unintentionally, particularly where they keep changing. When you are in different countries with different rules and challenging traffic conditions it's all too easy to do.

That’s true.

It’s hard enough in this country. I was driving through Norfolk today and one stretch of road went from 60, to 40 and back to 60 in about 3 miles. I think there was also a 50 in there somewhere as well:rolleyes:

We got one today too. Find it hard to believe as we never speed, in fact we just plod along. Apparently we were doing 73 in a 60 zone.:(. Just going to pay up. Hoping we don't get points on the licence.

Decent sat nav can be set to alert if you exceed the speed limit..

Sounds like the hard up Spanish Government are trying to top up the empty coffers by fining visitors. :(

Richard.

No problem here my Fiat 2.8JTD lump will struggle to reach those speeds

And if you just ignore their request what do they do? I'm not trying to be controversial but I would like to hear comment from anybody with first hand experience.

Just don't return to Spain in the foreseeable future.
Don't know if they use ANPR but if so you could be picked up as soon as you enter the country.
Unless you sell the van of course, then the new owner might get nicked. :D

You won't. The dvla just pass on the information .
Hope you're right. Do you think it will affect insurance and have to be declared?
No. They've no way of finding out.

Send in debt collectors. Or Next time you enter country ,especially by air ,you'll be stopped. If you return in same vehicle it depends on cameras or being stopped.

just as an aside do either of you have the photo's? Otherwise how do you know you were actually speeding ?
Also I find the 50% discount for paying within 20 days odd as that is supposed to be for residents only ?

Could it be a scam?
But on further thought you both must know whether you were on that route on the day in question.
If you don't think you would have been speeding it really would be sensible to insist on seeing the photos taken as @gus-lopez says.

Richard.

We keep a very detailed spread sheet on where we've been, the route and how long the journeys take so, yes m'lud guilty as charged.
