Hello fellow Funsters. Not long arrived in France for a 4 week trip.
Got as far as our first stop over half an hour from dieppe and found the bar which opens the waste dump was loose in its guide. I’ve managed to pull it out from the water tank and push it back into place.
It now dumps ok put I suspect it’s still loose and able to disengage from the tanks again.
I can see that there seems to be a removable plastic cover from the water tank.
Anyone know what’s involved to eject a repair?

🥵☀️ cheers

Make and model of van or pictures would help you get suggestions

Might not be the solution until you get home, but I installed an electric valve in the drain pipework and left the main valve open. I can now drop my waste from the drivers seat !
The electric valve is simply a manual valve with an electric motor attached to it, so if the motor fails I can still maually open the drain.

Cost around £30 from memory and a few hours, most of which was routing the cable back to the dashboard!
I've still got a few switches if you decide to go down that path ...

A good solution. Just one word of warning concerning winter use, having the valve on the tank is part of the winterisation. The pipework can freeze up in cold weather if the valve has been along the pipe.

very good point, i will be draining down the waste tank (and all other water on board) as part of my winterising, however for those who go winter skiing or other cold climate holidays, or even just driving through towards sunnier climes, then the alternative would be to make sure pipework and valve is well insulated.
some have fitted their electric drain valve adjacent to the tank itself ... i might go down that path at some time in the future ..

The dump valve is seperate to the tank either fixed to the side of the tank or in the outlet pipe. Removing the inspection hatch won't help.
You need to crawl under the van and have a look.

If I could drag attention back to my OP
The long square bar which connects into the waste tank has become loose. It’s a Dethleffs 2020 on Ducato. Managed to pull bar out of the tank interface and reinsert it but wondering if it could come loose again? Not sure how it’s locked in place?
There seems to be a removable section on waste tank?
Cheers

I think when people asked for pictures it was more of the tank and mechanism. Many may not be familar with that van model but similar systems could be on other vans. (y)
From your description i know it makes no sense to me.. But pics would help (y)(y)
