Would anyone be able to advise if the warranty would be void on a new motorhome if the first habitation check was carried out later than the standard requirement.
TIA

Normally only a month leeway, some manufacturers don't even give that.
But not all vans need a hab check for the warranty, most German vans don't, they just the damp check for the water ingress warranty.

Best thing is to check your paperwork or speak to the dealer or manufacturer. Ours I think says it has to be done within a two month window. Outside that and you probably have compromised your warranty.

Thanks Lenny. What is frustrating is that we are new to motorhomes and the dealer did not explain this. The home was purchased brand new.

I think most likely it would be void. However you would have statuary rights that things should last a reasonable time no matter what the warranty terms are as long as it's not something that could have been prevented by servicing at the correct time. I presume it is for a motorhome you own if it's a question about one for sale I wouldn't buy without a healthy discount if the warranty is potentially void.

Worth having a damp check done for ingress to reassure yourself things are ok. How overdue is the check

You should at least have some paperwork detailing warranty and requirements. I'd get back to the dealer and manufacturer and explain the situation if you weren't informed or have warranty info. Surprised a dealer didn't inform you as it's an earner for them.

I think you will find that if there are any warranty issues the dealer will submit a claim to the manufacturer who will advise that the hab checks etc were not carried out per the contracted requirements and the warranty is therefore void.
Any excuse not to carry out warranty work. And your dealer won't be that supportive either.

I had the same issue with our Burstner (new last year). The check should have been done in April but I didn't realise about the one month either side rule and had it done in July. I can't recall the dealer mentioning it although to be fair it's detailed in the documentation pack that came with the mh (easy to miss though). I contacted Burstner and initially they said the warranty was void, however, I persisted, sent them a copy of the hab check showing no water ingress, pleaded innocence and stupidity and promised to get future ones done on time and they relented. Kept their confirmation email just in case!

We bought new in 2018 and definitely haven't done the hab checks in the right time for any warranty to remain valid. I get the hab check done because I want the electrics, gas and damp to be safe and not a problem, not for any warranty.

So far, five years in and the warranty has probably expired. During those five years, we haven't had any problems that I would expect to be covered by a warranty. With a bit of luck and prudent servicing, you won't either. Many warranties are wriggled out of by dealers/manufacturers anyway.

Ours is 9 years old and we only claimed for one small thing on the warranty. I would in the ops situation ask the manufacturer what the situation is and if it's possible to reinstate it as in the unlikely event of needing a damp repair it could make a huge difference. Also theres the question of when it comes to sell or trade in the MH how it will affect the value

Each manufacturer has different requirements, some insist the check is done by the selling dealer etc others allow any NCC workshop to carry it out.

I only have experience of Bailey and they have a six week Window after the anniversary of the motorhomes first purchase from new.

I do know someone with an Elddis van whereas late having a habitation check and was refused later warranty repairs.

I hope this helps, I am sure others will have a view/advice.

As IRHP said, it’s surprising that the dealer didn’t emphasise the warranty requirement as they, the dealers, stand to generate income with the hab. check, etc. Contact Bailey and see what they say would be my advice too……
