Hi All. New to motorhomes after selling our self build conversion. Had a 2 year RAC warranty on that (we purchased). But now trying to find a reliable warranty policy for a 2014 Carthago A class with 57k miles on the clock. Full service history stamps and recent MOT and hab checks all present. It's a minefield and RAC not responding. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Warranty very often not worth the paper printed on.
Is the dealer not offering any
No dealer warranty, just statutory consumer cover, and sold as seen. Would have been the same if a private sale. Hence wanting to put our own extended warranty on it.

The fact that the dealer is not offering it would put most warranty companies off. Might the dealer do one for a small uplift in price? I don't think it is common for purchasers to be looking for warranty cover. Extended warranties are often available on new vehicles at the option of the purchaser and at their expense but the absolute best you are likely to do on a vehicle of this age I would suggest is a 1 one year warranty from the dealer.

P.S. I haggled on the purchase of my 2007 Hobby T500 and got a price reduction and a warranty extended from 3 to 6 months to give me some assurance (a) of the dealer faith in the vehicle and (b) as some measure of protection from a major bill this summer.

Generally, warranty cover will NOT cover the cost of any repair needed, you will need to add money to actual hourly rate for the fitters, compared to the significantly lower rate offered for the job by the warranty company if, and it's a big IF they even accept your vehicle meets their criteria for any repair. Their business model is based around NOT paying out for repairs, just offering the illusion of some all singing all dancing gold star cover. They are masters of excuses and have a lot of practice.
Save the equivalent of the cover into a "sinking fund " for the van then pay for any repairs out of that fund.

Isnt the standard 6 month warranty included on this like car sales? or is that just the base vehicle and not the hab side.
Asking for a friend. 👍

I'm sure there are companies out there offering warranties for sale but they obviously must take in enough extra over what they pay out to cover all their running costs and a profit so if you can afford to it's going to be better to put the money aside towards any repairs. I think at that age and mileage they're going to wriggle out of almost any claims or expect a very significant contribution towards any they do pay out on.

I had a warranty with this company years ago via a caravan dealer.
Not sure if they deal with the public but they did offer to renew it after the year was up
I did have a claim through the dealer for a new fridge circuit board without issue

Personally I would put £1000 in premium bonds and hope not to need it back for repairs

You might do better to get a full inspection which may then cover major issues that develop early on

The same inspection may identify things to get fixed or adjust the price

Thankyou all for your responses, great to have somewhere to ask this stuff and not feel completely daft! Have some good pointers and now feel more excitement about picking up the van next weekend and less C&C (clenching and concerned) !!
