Presently in Spain and received the attached email from Three. Used my mifi early in March for 4 days total 2.3gb, and again this month 5 days total of 4.8gb.(My contract allowance allows me 12gb/month) They way it reads that’s my 2 months used according to their fair use policy so can’t use it abroad for another 12 months. Needless to say I emailed 3 requesting they cancel my contract.

Hopefully the content of this email provides clarity for any members on Three contracts about roaming abroad as there has been a lot of discussion about it on MHF this year.

Three have always had the rule Re no more than 2 months roaming at a time, long before Brexit etc. They calculate it in full calendar months so if you went as an example on 2nd May and returned to UK on 29th June it would not count as you haven’t used whole calendar months. I discovered this after being cut off and complaining, my complaint was finally upheld by Offcom 😊.

In this case Stewart J, you don’t say but I suspect you switched your mifi on in March whilst outside the UK then switched it off before you actually entered the U.K. again and did the same again in May, hence them thinking you were abroad for the whole period March to now, and why would they not think so if that is how you’ve done it. If you’d switched it on in the UK in between the problem would not have arisen, if my suspicions are correct.

Been in Spain 70 days used the mifi several times for secure financial stuff rather than campsite Wi-fi during this time so they are factually correct. Contract cancelled their loss, local sims as recommended on here next visit.

Your lucky, the suspended my sim without any notice what so ever, I contacted customer service and they got it unlocked and lasted hour, turned router off, then next suspended again. This happened 3 or 4 times. I was using a Teltonika rut950 router and weirdly Ive swapped back to the Huawei router and sim has stayed active.
I’d only been in France for 22 days when this happened, live chat or calling customer service is like being on a merry go round but the last person gave a months payment refund. They say the customer protection team are suspending the sim for unauthorised usage but I can’t find out what usage.

We ve just switched from Sky to O2 for phones for this reason, we should be ok for next trip 6 weeks ish but then going on a longer one in the autumn without a 2 months gap so will wait and see. Reading the terms we re hoping they will just charge us the extra on the phones and not block the calls. We re already planning on local sims for bulk of the data, been thinking about the Tiecom deal but we don't use that much.

Also weirdly all this time I’ve been using my phone on three with no problem.( maybe I shouldn’t have said that😗)

We've recently migrated all 4 Three contracts to EE due to coverage. The difference is like night and day with some staggering speeds particularly on 5G. Don't know about the roaming yet. I think while they put up more 5G masts their coverage will be poor and has gone off a few times where we live. Glad I made the move.

Three sent me a very curt email that they were switching roaming off so I moved to plusnet (ee) did me a favour, much better network. 👍
