WARNERS MOTORHOME SHOWS

You will have an invite when I do! I decide who I like on fun by the simple question based on posts. The question being... “Would I have a beer with them in my personal time?” 😂
That is my standard as well.

In darkest Essex, Stella is known as “wifebeater” and Peroni is that poncy catspee from Italy. I like them both though

I will get something sorted for next year!! Let’s just hope all the norf’eners turn up with Stella and not Boddingtons, John Smiths or Special Brew....
In the south which is where the good people live, we drink Stella or Peroni.
Do not do beer ... but have been known to partake of the odd whiskey.. or bacardi, or vodka, of sambuka or ouzo or.. well you get the idea :-)

A dealer in Newark puts on 4 shows a year with big acts and dinner, all for free. They are able to accommodate a lot of vans but also fire a nearby site. All this is free to customers, but you have to get in quick to get a booking. They sell masses of vans over each of those weekends. Obviously I have no figures but it’s easy to see from the people queued up at salesmen’s desks.

We used to do regional show’s some years ago, even won awards for best exhibits, but they never paid their way but it was a way of putting your company before different visitors.
We adopted our own in house show weekends supported by many of our trade suppliers, also bringing in support of the Air Ambulance, Blood Bikers and our local hospital. One major draw always seem to be to lay on good refreshments.
These events were always well attended and in many cases good customer friends freely offered help which we found more important than our own sales staff, these events usually finished in the evenings with a “ well done “ party.
One of our best events was titled “ One Hundred Years of Biking “ we had hundreds attending with their vintage and classic bikes ( only one year missed 1938 ) we also had the local Fire Brigade show off their tender, Air Ambulance with their chopper, the kids loved climbing all over these, outside caters doing ice cream, hot dogs, etc. This event produced sales of 4 mopeds, 7 new motor cycles, 6 used bikes and 3 cars,
There is a video still going around of the event, one of my cousins bought one in a car boot sale in Oxford.

So, yes Simon that is the way to go, I’ll bring down some proper Zummezet cider, that will put hairs on the chest of some of your guests.

Sorry we don’t do lager. When I started going in pubs it was only sold in half pints as it was for the ladies.
Now if we’re talking proper ale, Taylor’s Theakstons, Black Sheep etc then we’ll be there.

Next year I will chuck a load of money at fun, Facebook and do a load of open weekends. I could hire the campsite next door for the weekend, put all of you up, put food and entertainment and get you all pissed, sell a few vans back at base which is always easier and all of this for a fraction of the cost!

30 years ago my ex wife worked for a truck company , volvo decided the NEC show wasn't for them that year so they rented Bruntingthorpe airfield for the day, they called it ride and drive , took a load of trucks down , a few selected accessory manufacturers and invited the customers and dealers.

It was great , I got to drive an artic with a 40ft trailer, an 8 wheel tipper and a 26t rigid round the airfield

It was much better than looking at polished trucks under artificial lights

As a bonus I was helping them pack up , I was asked to get the trailer out of the hanger so I wound the windy Miller handle to open the door and there was a lightning jet with the ladder down

I assume it was the one they use today , I went up the ladder for a nosey , good job the canopy was shut or I'd have been in it

My favourite jet ever

Have you sat and watched the footfall at the various accessory companies and displays of vehicles? I admit to seeing a few dealers get it wrong and sell very few vans. Mostly down to disinterested salesmen, not keen to strike a deal. Have spoken to many attending the show who say they were smitten by X van at the show, but too hard to get a deal so bought elsewhere. An enthusiastic dealer with good stock and workforce will do really well

As for sea flo, who I used as an example, every day of the show packed with people buying large quantities of stock. Even queueing to get into their marquee and salesmen constantly busy taking sales. By the end of each day the stock has gone down so much that they restock from another van from base. More than once I have requested a part that they have not got at the show, always there the next morning sent out on the restocking run. I have spoken to a member of staff I know who confirmed the weekend takings
Strange as given my company actually went to shows since 1990 and probably went to the first of the “popular“ shows we stopped attending in 2016

The cost to attend gets higher and higher, we get treated like cash cows by the organiser, and scum by some of the public, and loose money.

Having attended show for some 26 years, I probably would have sent the team to a few more, rather than knock it on the head if we were pocketing £50k a weekend lol

Since then we have concentrated on the NEC but have refused to book for 2021 as we just don’t know what’s happening.

Unfortunately that simply isn’t the case. You lay Warner’s £25000 for a pitch big enough then pay another 10k for hotels and food etc, then fuel, drivers etc etc.
You then get loads of potential customers saying dealer a,b and c are all 4K cheaper that you so will you match it. Before you know it your making 2-3 k a van but then have to prep, pay for a warranty, valet, pay commission etc etc. They simply are not worth it.

Sorry to disappoint Simon, but when visiting the south I frequent the same type of hostelries I use here up north. Our locals rule is to have a number of ale hand pumps, with quality ale from all over the UK guesting all the time. We still have drinkers who only have Fosters, or even Stella, but us serious ale drinkers never take them to task. If that is what they like, it still keeps the pub open serving it which allows us the special sampling of ours. There are not many places you can get a top quality flavourful ale that stays on point all the way to the bottom of the pint glass for £2.40, especially down south.
It is also not just smaller niche brewers, some of my favourites include Harvey’s from Sussex, Robinsons from Stockport, Hawkshead, Kirkby Lonsdale, and especially Wily Fox from Wigan. I will stop there, could list them for hours.
Unfortunately, and for probably the next five months, I am banned alcohol and caffeine of any kind, so to avoid temptation I am suffering the occasional Becks Blue or similar.

I remember discussing security systems with you at the bath & west in the early 90s. I thought at the time that you had the right idea focussing on the leisure market rather than just another car alarm installer

Not so certain now, as you are clearly a here today gone tomorrow charlatan

Another thing is targeted advertising, like the pop ups that we get. I don’t know how it all works, but it was explained to me that it’s better to spend X amount targeting known possible customers then to spend X amount on a blanket approach. The information that advertising knows about us is unbelievable, so maybe shows will die out and then come back as a nostalgic type thing.

We have Stella in the North but it's a delicacy served in a chalice
I did see a guy in the pub with a pint of it once,

though the way he was drinking it I daren't ask how much "reassuringly expensive" actually was.
