I bought a Huawei 5330-6s mifi last autumn and it's worked well. However this model is limited to 3G and I'd like to get 4G where it's available. Do I just buy another 5330 model that says it has 4G (about £45 on ebay) or is there a different model that I should look for?
By the way, if I do upgrade, does anyone want my old one for, say, £20?

And when you find an antenna that performs like the manufacturer claims, then please let me know.:)

Unlikely that any antennas perform as the suppliers claim. However, I have bought a couple of "cheapies". One was absolutely useless but the second pulls in 4G on a fringe area whereas without the antenna the wifi only latches on to 3G. It also helps me avoid having to place the mifi up in the MH rooflight to get a reasonable signal. Well worth the £4.10 "investment" for me.

HUAWEI 5577 , great bit of kit with 4g . Been using mine for 18 months and although it has dual ports for a external antenna I have never even used mine as it seems to get a great signal without.

@Flamenca - so perhaps the Huawei E5573?
Thanks,
Bill
I am not sure that the Huawei E5573 has connections for an external antenna. I use an unlocked Vodafone R215 which is a badged Huawei E5372 mifi. It is not the latest model and has Vodafone firmware but works fine using a Three network SIM.

Please tell, which was the good one. I have one which is close to useless.

The one which certainly improved my reception is this one:

I now have two, one for the MH and the second in a static position at home.

I can not say that it meets the suppliers spec but certainly provides an improvement for me. The first antenna which was useless cost three times as much so considered spending £4.10 a reasonable gamble.

:groan: Yepp, I have ordered one as well on the strength of that. At that price as really retired says, "worth a try!"

Using an E5573 as we speak. It does have external aerial connection but not using one.

More antennas here ... a bit cheaper but only 5 left:

There are others though, if you do a search for TS-9 or TS9 interface antenna you'll find them ...

We bought ours in black from Amazon for £71 or so a few weeks ago - still at that price now. We also bought the 12GB Three SIM for £24 from Mymemory.

Looks like that deal is no longer available. The link is to Amazon and the cheapest new one is now £69.99

hya folks - went over to 3 shop in Kidderminster yesterday and got one of these deals http://store.three.co.uk/view/content/mbasket - checked with the assistant that I could use the 30 day notice cancellation anytime and she said no problem, so had a play with it and set it all up, this morning rang number she supplied to cancel and went through absolutely no problem. Still can't understand how 3 do this, but who's complaining, certainly not me :)
Also bought one of these antenna

- was getting 3 bar signal strength, plugged it in and immediately got 5 bars
cheers

I'm looking to get one of these, but wondering if it's worth it as our mobile allowance is valid from any EU country now, with the recent changes in mobile phone policy.
This is all new to me, hope it's not too silly a question........ are there still advantages?

I bought one for our road trip in May/June this year through Spain Portugal and France and never had to use it. SO still got it and the data sim...does it runout is there a time limit...?

Clock starts ticking when you put the sim in and turn it on.
Timeline depends on the sim you bought, eg, 1Gb 1 month, 12Gb 12 month, etc.

I am no techie but wonder if the important factor is not so much the aerial or model as the sim. Last year with Vodaphone in Spain, the reception was almost useless. Now with"3" reception has been excellent wherever we are. We have a Tp-Link bought in Spain.

Since the scrapping of roaming charges earlier this year reception and download speeds have increased dramatically on all networks as the connection is no longer 'throttled'.

I would think this is the main reason for your better connection speeds.

Well, I shoulda got one of these things as my virgin phone won't pick up any data whatsoever. They totally cut me off, phone signal included 3times refreshing their settings, so in just living with it! I'm on WiFi in a very swanky hotel in Venice. oh well. Next time.
