We are currently on the campsite at the Show Caves of Wales in the Brecon Beacons. Gorgeous views all around, hard standing pitches and grassy ones for tents. EHU, fresh water and waste water at every pitch. Laid out in little sections. We are the only ones in our section. On the whole site, I have seen 2 tiny tents with singles in (there is direct access to the Black Mountain path - there are monuments and some wreckage left of 6 planes that crashed here), 2 family tents and there are about 5 other Motorhomes spread around. Toilets open and the grounds of the site open. On site, a farm, the caves of course and dinosaur forest walk (extra charge)

Just pitch up and wait for evening money collection or pay at coffee shop.

I'm booked for September at the site

Dan yr Ogof, they have added so much since I went there as a child and again about 14 years ago with Mum & Robert.
As a teenager I had a try with a long bow there. :giggle:

We have just come back from a tour around Devon and only one of the sites was anywhere near full and that had quite a few spaces. We did comment on the way down that we had never seen as many Motorhomes/Campervans on the road before.

We’re in Wales at the moment. The Gower was packed and The Mumbles was as busy and tourist-y as you’d imagine, but the further you head inland, the quieter it gets. Currently at a Britstop on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and we’re the only ones here! Didn’t see many MHs on the way up, either.

Nothing to do with camping but you've triggered a memory

When the kids were small maybe 7&9 we took them to Warwick castle

They employ actors to portray characters and some of them are really into it

The guy doing the medieval archery was one of those , brilliant at story telling but not so great at the archery , the kids were totally engrossed in his tales of medieval war and gruesome death

Then the archery , him shooting the longbow at a target narrated with an imaginary tale of what was happening

He started with , "We approached the coach and started the attack" , then he let one go that missed , "that one killed his dog" , then another miss , "that one got the horse" , then he hit the target

After I saw them talking, some of the others were ripping into him for the poor archery skills but my kids (and me) loved every minute of it .

Have the, "you're not welcome" flag wavers on the motorway bridges gone now...be careful what you wish for ;-)

It looks great, opposite of site we’re currently on in Bala which is full. Can’t say we’ve seen a lot of Motorhome’s on road thus far navigating our way through North Wales.

Heading home now after a wonderful time away. Today was a bit of a washout but the rest of the holiday had glorious weather.

One question: what’s an “Araf” and why are they so slow? Every road seems to warn you about them but I’ve never seen one! 😂

Strange, we were there last week for 5 nights. Our site Pitten Cross was less than half full. Went into Mumbles for walk and lunch, quiet.

We're off to this site on Friday for a couple of nights. Glad to see it being so positively reviewed, hopefully it hasn't gone downhill in the last couple of years ...

Have not looked recently but it was very expensive.
The caves are worth a visit though.

I thought the caves were well worth the entrance fee.
