Hi
Does anyone know if you you can still access ITVX and BBC’s player in Europe using a vpn as I have read on ITVX website info that they have now blocked you watching it if it detects you are on a vpn, off on a long trip to Europe next week and would like to find out before I go
Thanks

I watched both in Spain earlier this year, not with a vpn, with an 02 uk SIM card.

Do bare in mind ITVx uses a lot of data,

VPN not generally needed with a UK sim card - only foreign ones.

Btg I doubt it will make a difference. BBC have been trying to block VPN's for years. The whole point of a VPN is that they are difficult to block. Generally if BBC or ITV spot you are using a VPN (which will take a while - if at all) then you switch your location to a different one via the VPN. I think maybe it's a case of ITV haven't been bothering in the past and maybe are going to make more of an effort in future.

You do need to use a decent VPN though - paid ones like Express VPN or Nord. Lots are useless. I usually do a months free trail with Express or Nord if I am away for a short period.

I use a fire stick with “3rd party” rapid streamz downloaded apps for all the uk channels connected to my hotspot phone . Virtually all of them under one app - worked very well

Just my experience…….depends on VPN. We used a cheap/trial one and found what worked one day didn’t work the next and we had to keep trying different log ins etc to get it to work. It was a pain! Most of the paid/decent ones will work no problem.
We are currently using a Tesco mobile family sim in a WiFi router. Unlimited data and no vpn needed. £30 a month and cancel at any time. Used in France for over a month and used over 100gb data with no issues.

IQ Go, £20 for 100gb, works abroad without a VPN.

£20 to keep your sim active all year, then buy data bolt-on's whenever you want. Works off EE network.

ITVx is a PITA
We have it preloaded on our alphatronics TV, but it does not have an option for live TV, apart from using a firestick, are there any other options for this?

Can the TV connect to a WiFi signal, for example a hot-spot on your phone? If it can you should be able to stream live TV and catchup stuff too.

I can watch live TV on ITVx on my tablet, just as I can with iPlayer. I would have thought you should be able to do this using your TV but I don't have a smart TV so can't check.

Watching BBC and ITVX now, in mid France, using NordVPN.

Having tried a couple I find NordVPN to be the best.

Using Reglo sim and Firestick with Surfshark and all channels are working but I’ve been avoiding ITX due to the amount of data it uses.
BBC doesn’t like playing from live list but search for program via search and then select the live episode and it plays
