I have a Huawei 5577C MiFi and like many on here I've been using Three PAYG sims for trips into mainland Europe, the 12G cards from MyMemory being about the best value for money per gigglebit. :)

For the next trip I'm going to use the remaining data/time left on my current Three sim then swap to a Vodafone sim which I've bought on a rolling monthly contract with 10GB of data per month. They do other smaller plans but knowing how much data we use this should be just about enough. :) In cost terms it works out about the same as the Three PAYG card but it is more convenient to have it on a plan. We will be away for 10 weeks and I will just cancel the contract at the end - having checked how much notice I need to give them of course. :) If we do run out of data I expect there is a way to buy more online although I haven't looked at that yet.

The reason for this post is others might be trying different sims to Three now that roaming charges have been scrapped and getting it to work wasn't as simple as just popping the sim card in. :)

The MiFi connected to the Vodafone network but it said there was no internet. After a bit of head scratching I fired up the Huawei app on my tablet and had a rummage about in the settings to discover the MiFi was still using the Three APN. Delving into the APN settings there were none listed other than the Three one, so I created a new one using the settings shown here: https://support.vodafone.co.uk/Devi...t/67884038/Set-up-your-phone-for-internet.htm

Which didn't work either! So I tried turning the MiFi off and on and still no joy but when I went back into the APN settings I found a list of Vodafone APN settings, including one called Pay Monthly - which it had already selected as the default and now all working.

I am not sure why these Vodafone APN settings were not visible initially and I can only suspect it was restarting it which did the trick. If this doesn't work for you then the settings which worked are:

APN Name: Vodafone PAYMONTHLY
APN: internet
User name: web
Password: web

The password I am guessing is "web" as it is shown just as *** but the other settings on their website use the same password as the User name so this is probably correct.

Anyway, if you put a new sim card in your MiFi - don't forget to change the APN settings if it doesn't connect automatically - and check it works before you leave the UK. :)
