I am planning a trip to the UK this summer. I am used to the French system where every village has parking for camping cars, overnight stops are free on the motorways and there are water/dump points everywhere.

How do you manage a trip in the UK, looking on S4S all I seem to find are pub carparks (no facilities) or caravan club sites (which I have no intention of joining).

How do you do your filling and dumping ?

depending on where you are visiting, some funsters might allow a dump and fill stop for other paid up members ...... perhaps even the odd night stopover ...

If you have a rough idea of where you are going in the UK, post it up on here. I am sure you will benefit from the local knowledge of individual members. But, if you are expecting the same countrywide facilities that you get in France, forget it. You are streets ahead of us in making motorhomers feel welcome over there.
Have safe and happy travels.

I see the OP says not likely to join CMHC but for information they do have reciprocal arrangements with foreign clubs. We have regularly seen Dutch and German visitors on club sites. I think it is via the Camping Key Europe card system. We get the card when we take out Red Pennant for European trips. Still expensive though compared to many European sites via ACSI.

I don't know what powers they may have to fine a foreign-registered vehicle (if that's what you have) which doesn't pay the charge.
The company that registers you for Transport for London are EPC plc. They also do tags for many countries. They are also the main UK debt collection company for the aforementioned along with parking in the UK
They have no qualms about using info from one country to chase you in another. They have no qualms about using illegal methods hoping the foreigner is not aware of the rules. They are scum of the highest order ,I have posted of them a few times before.
OK, perhaps I should have said most roads, not 90%. Loads of websites stating this, just google 'can I sleep in my motorhome on the road'. No national law, just local bylaws covering 'most' roads.
I usually stop where the lorries park overnight .Ok for them then it is ok for me(y)(y)

Many thanks for the info, I think it is going to be less simple than I thought.
For your amusement, at the other end of the scale, the IKEA car park in Murcia usually has about a hundred camping cars staying over winter.

An amusing side effect is the total absence of litter with most campers sweeping their little patch every morning.

How about joining one of the clubs and then cancel membership within 14 days cooling off period and then do the same with other one😜

Aaah it becomes clearer - I see there are two mafia cartels ; the Caravan and Motorhome Club (trading name of the Caravan Club) and the Camping and Caravanning Club.

It seems that if I fork about 150 quid to these two bodies I can then be allowed to pay to use their sites. The join and cancel option will be ideal for my trip.

There are lots of campsites in the UK that have no affiliation to the two major clubs.
As with most sites in the UK and elsewhere you will pay a premium for weekends and during school holidays.

I wouldn't join the CAMC, if you are like many of us you'll balk at their prices (even as a member). We only stay members ourselves for one site, which is only reasonably priced out of season, and would/is way too much in summer.

The other club however can be quite reasonably providing you are off grid capable. I'm doing 10 nights with them over next week and a bit doing some van repairs away from home and it's working out at £11 a night. Yes on a club site, but without electric.

You may find the
"The join and cancel option will be ideal for my trip"
is not an option if you use their sites in the free cancellation period. Check!
