So my solar has stopped. The Victron app is saying temperature is -1C. It's quite warm today in Sunny Surrey and inside van was toasty when I stepped inside.

In the app I have just disabled the temperature protection in settings. Solar now working. Still says it's -1C.

But where is the temp being sent from, so I can correct this? Only other thing connected is the Smartshunt which communicates by Bluetooth with the Smartsolar MPPT75/15. Smartshunt Aux is not connected and is set to none in the app settings.

Apps report all firmware is latest versions.

I had something similar a few months back, we have the smart battery sense that picks up and broadcasts the temperature, I think I just reconnected it to the network and it was OK.

But I don't have anything that is capable of monitoring the temperature, unless there is a sensor hidden in either the smartshunt or solar controller themselves. Battery is a Sterling Lithium so that won't have any communication with the Victron stuff.

If you have lithium you will have temperature sensing somewhere I believe.

EDIT the Smart Shunt can measure temperature.

Yep there will be a BMS that can sense temperature, but that is part of the battery itself. The BMS can't communicate with the Victron stuff, albeit that if the BMS were to say no to charging current would stop flowing, but Victron couldn't understand why.

Meanwhile having disabled the smartsolar temperature protection in the app, has completely removed the reporting of any temps in the app, the entire field has disappeared gone from the status pages for the solar, and things now seem to be charging normally

The smartshunt has an input that can measure the voltage of a second battery, or temperature with an option cable.

It could be that -1 in computer code is often the same as False. So maybe app update has accidentally switched to thinking the temperature is set to read, but there's no value? I'd try switching the settings, saving and then switching it back again to see if it fixes it. Report the bug to Victron.

I am pretty sure there will be something that the Solar can see, if not the Smart Shunt direct to the Solar possibly, I think when mine went funny it was trying to read the temperature from the Shunt which wasnt actually connected to measure temp, reconnecting to the network sorted it.

If you fit the Smart battery sense. (about £40 and just two wires to attach) Maybee this will override all other temp senses and work. Just a thought!!

But that's yet more money :whatthe: There is a point at which I have to stop my spending spree on upgraded electronics for a small van. It's now well over £3,000 (lithium, B2B, solar controller, smartshunt, mains charger, bigger solar fixings and wiring, added 12V outlets, small pure sine wave inverter .... I should have shares in Victron).

But the fiddle yesterday disabling the temperature shutdown in the Victron App for the solar seems to have solved the immediate concern.

Kannon Fodda Did you manage to rejoin the network and have a correct temp display?

I've exactly the same issue with solar thinking the batteries are at -1 degree. I leave the network and it fixes itself but if I rejoin the network it goes back to stating -1

Doesn't seem to be a problem at moment. I only did the various faffs as above and it's working fine since.
