Have Nordelectronica charges mounted horizontally under the dinette floor by rapido at time of build.
Nothing wrong with the chargers but their lithium profile is too aggressive and even lead with desulphation disabled is too high at 14.5v, 13.5v
Fogstar confirmed this.
Intended swapping for victron but find that victron mounting instructions state vertical which rules out under floor if I follow this.
The Nordelectronica meanwhile seem happy with flat mounting providing 30mm gap at each end.

Has anyone with a EU style front dinette layout mounted victron underfloor OR did you rewire it all and relocate to under the dinette seat with the battery and mount vertically.

What have ppl done with similar vans.

Didn’t know that restriction on Victron! 😢

Can you create a small vertical bulkhead under the floor, 9mm ply will be fine, to mount the Victron kit?

The Victron 30amp Dc-Dc Charggers are renowned for get very hot at the back where the heatsink does its work. If mounted horizontally it would make things worse and will burn the backing timber its mounted on and probably burn the unit itself out.
Thats probably why they suggest mounting vertically to allow air to be drawn in at the bottom and pass out the top like a small convector heater with as much space/ventilation arround it as possible. If it is not easy to place vertically under the floor, then its best to place inside a cupboard/storage area under seat or similar. I would still recommend not screwing it to any laminated furniture finish, use a spacer if poss.
I believe the Victron Orion XS 50 amp Dc-Dc Charger has been improved somehow and reports are it doesn't seem to get as hot at the rear.
Others that have it will know more.

What about horizontal but “upside down”. Heat sink on the upper surface? 🤔

If you are OK with a 25A charger then the Victron BlueSmart IP65 charger doesn't seem to required any particular orientation. I've got a 15A one mounted flat on a shelf.

I can confirm they get very hot and then the output decreases they are still good units but you need ventiltion
My advice would be definately get the new 50amp victron one and contact off grid solutions on here

I agree with that about the Victron chargers. Interested to see what gets discussed / decided about the dc2dc

Thanks for info, looking like..
Orion xs 50amp but limited to 30/40amp max charge.
30amp IP22 victron mains.
The rapido wiring is very weak only x1 50a fuse at the starter battery, and 1 50amp at the leisure battery. Their isn't even a fuse between the 2 leisure batts. All wiring also only 10mm2, no busbar no separate fusing of feeds from chargers.
All wiring needs replacing with 16mm2 to busbar then 20/25mm2 from busbar to the new lifepo battery. Will need to create either a thick aluminium (heatsink) or plywood mounting panel under dinette seat and remove everything but the 12v distribution unit from the underfloor.
So much for simply dropping in a lifepo4 battery.

We have a Victron Multiplus and that can be mounted horizontally if required but of course you need to ensure good ventilation.😊
