So a bit of a strange one today, it's actually sorted itself out now but still wondering what was going on,

Today I decided to have a look see how much solar I was getting as the sun was out, ZERO oops that can't be right, the app was showing -18 for battery temperature so that would be why, the Smart Battery Sense was reading 9 which would be right, on investigation the "Smart Solar controller" said it was getting the temperature from the shunt which as far as I know doesn't read temperature, I turned off the low temperature cut-off in the regulator and the solar came back up, messed about a bit with everything and it changed and the Solar said it was getting temperature from the "Smart Battery Sense"

This is after I switched off the low temperature cut-off.

This screen is showing the temperature coming from the Shunt.

Now it is right with the temperature coming from the smart Battery Sense.

So the basic question is why? and how do I rectify the issue if this happens again? other than just messing about.

I will answer one of my own questions, Q, does the Victron Smart Shunt measure temperature? A, yes but it's an option that I didn't purchase as I already had the Smart Battery Sense specifically for that purpose.

I would check the shunts aux input is set to none if there's nothing else attached - I use it for the start battery voltage.

If you set the Smart Shunt Aux Input to "Temperature" and you have Smart Networking enabled, then the system could try and use the SmartShunt for the temp info even if you didn't buy a Temp Probe and fit it to it.
It is not a setting that would make sense to do, but it IS a setting that CAN be set and could be an explanation for why your system seems to see two temperature sources. It would also explain why the Solar Controller was off as a Temp Sensor input with no temp probe connected will read -18C, just what you saw.

PS. For anyone interested, the Temp Probes supplied with the Multiplus can be used with the Cerbo GX but are NOT compatible with the BMV-7x2 or the Smartshunt and vice-versa. They look identical but are not.

Thanks for that, just reading on the Victronenergy community page and it seems that I am not alone in having this or similar issues, I read about setting the aux input on the shunt to "none" so rushed straight outside BUT that was already it's setting, this is the first time I have had this issue so will check in the morning and if it is all OK I will put it down to a glitch but keep an eye on it.

Yes thanks for that (y) I think I was reading the same on the Victonenergy community page as you guys posted, I though "ah that's worth checking" but alas it was already at none so should not have been sending that reading to the network.

As hoovie already said, if the shunt is networked then the smart batt sense will be in conflict. You need to have only one source of temperature networked.
It happened to me, I had the ve bus temp as well as smart batt sense. I removed the batt sense and now the ve bus temp sensor is seen in GX and solar is working with that one.

The "aux" temperature sensing option in the Shunt is set to "none" and the probe is not connected so doesn't that mean that there should not be a conflict with the Smart Battery Sense as the Shunt should not be sending temperature data? yes I could remove the Shunt from the network and only just realised that I will still see the information in the app, is there any downside to removing the shunt from the network re Smart Solar charging?

I guess the smart solar will still get voltage data from the smart sense so should be fine, you can see on the appwhat each device on the network is using from which source.

The shunt aux set to none it should not be in conflict. Maybe reboot of devices to take effect of settings. Do you have a GX in your system? I remember you have a multiplus?

No just the solar, battery sense and shunt the rest is Buttner, it’s OK at the moment so I will just keep an eye on it.
