Victron Energy Orion XS 12/12-50A DC-DC Battery Charger Review

Kicking the backside out of the price though.

Got one delivered recently (From RogerIvy, good price and nice to do business with) and will pop it in as soon as the new hips will allow. Handy because I can set the input/output currents I will leave the existing cables until I can grovel around between the floors, but should still get around 40Amps assuming the 98.5% efficiency is correct. Replacing an Orion 30 which gives 30 when cold then after an hour it gets hot and drops to 23/24, in its defence the input voltage drop @ 30amps output (40something input) is from 14.1 down to 13.3 so it is having to work quite hard with a long run of 16mm cable.

Nice that the XS will use DVCC and sync charging with the other Victron kit, and has proper temp control for cold weather shutoff, so I can wire directly to D+ without going via a programmable relay.

Looks good and being so small should be much easier to locate than other B2Bs.

I’m after a b2b but it’s too expensive for me, I was looking to buy the previous one but the temperature excess put me off and now going for the votronic instead in a months time..

I have the Votronic. It had been in for 3 years and not missed a beat when Votronic swapped it for the latest version free of charge. The latest version has been in for 6 months. Fit and forget!

Just had it fitted today at Vanbitz where I said hello to Jim :hi:. They told me it was the first and only one they have fitted so far due to the ongoing supply issues (like hen's teeth apparently). I'm impressed that they managed to fit both DC/DC charger and MPPT solar regulator on the same footprint as the original DC/DC Dometic charger.

I was fortunate enough to have one fitted by ongrid power solutions, where they also left my 25 amp shualt insitu, so pushing out 75 amps when driving. Really impressed
