Hi everyone,
Recently had an auto electrician out to the van as the fuse kept blowing to the Victron dc-dc charger. Found some wires that had dropped and melted on the exhaust, so these have been mended and the fuse no longer blows. YAY!

My next bit of confusion is the dc-dc. It always seems to be in bulk charge. I’ve got a vanbitz battery master connected to it that always seems to be trickle charging the van battery too (red light on).

I’ll post pics of what my app says and the settings I’ve got. But it doesn’t seem right to me. Any advice?

My set up is:
250w solar panels connected to Renogy rover 20a solar controller.
30a Victron Orion smart dc-dc with a battery master connected to trickle charge the van battery.
2x 105ah Renogy lifepo4 batteries.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

You have the absorbtion time set to 2 hours so it will stay at 14.2v for hours after the battery reaches about 95% before goint to float voltage. Maybe you are not driving for long enough for it to change to float.

You could try changing the absorbtion time to ½ hour.

Who fitted it with cables running near the exhaust? Must have been real cowboys.

What is the Renogy solar set to - can you change it to the same as the Orion?

Unfortunately we bought it off the first owner who’d bought it from the converters. So goodness knows! It’s a beautiful conversion on the face of it too

What settings would I need to change so it’s the same as the Victron? Sorry I’m really struggling to get my head around it all!

OK I don't know renogy I'm afraid, but it would be good to have the absorption and float figures the same..

The Victron 30a Orion tends to run hot does it not? It then throttles the output, so your batteries may not be getting enough current to fully charge, especially if there are any current draws at the same time

When I felt the DC-DC yesterday it wasn’t hot at all, but the battery master was very warm!!

Is the battery master charging at night and is the DC-DC in bulk when the engine is off? My 1st thought is that you have a voltage loop through the battery master. Your starter battery is at 12.8v and leisure at 14.1 so the battery master is on as the 2 voltages difference is above the BM trigger which I think is 0.7v. Your DC-DC shutdown is also at 12.8v so If your DC-DC isn't switched by D+ then maybe that's why it's always on. P.S. I'm no expert!!
