I'm a newbie
Some advice please.Brand new to all this and hoping to collect our first ever van next month. The Victron bmv battery monitor what exactly are its functions. Also then if you have the solar regulator with Bluetooth is that giving the exact same information as the bmv.

No
The info is different
The battery monitor tells you the state of the battery taking all inputs and outputs into account and the solar controller tells you how much electricity is being generated by the solar panels

Brill. Thanks very much for your prompt and more importantly easy to understand reply.

The Victron battery monitor is not a simple voltage-based meter. The voltage of the battery is sometimes not a good indication of the state of charge, especially when there's solar panels.

The BMV measures the current (amps) going into and out of the battery from all connected chargers and loads. It has a computer chip with a clock function, that keeps a count of the amps in and out over time, to show how much charge is left in the battery at any time. This system is much more reliable than voltage-based monitors.
