Morning, the battery on my van is losing power while not running, if I'm using every day it's not losing much about .3v but If I leave it a day it's enough for it not to start, multimeter said 12.1volts on the day it didn't start, the battery as been on just over 2 years & is 70ah, there's a split charge relay from that battery charging 2 leasure batteries, Could this have affected the vans starter battery over time? I'm wondering if I need a bigger starter battery? Any advice? Ian

I would say your battery is goosed if its going down to 12.1v in a day.

That's my thinking just after a second opinion before I it another battery, cheers ian

70ah sounds a bit small for a Sprinter van. I would check out the correct size before ordering a replacement

Get it tested before you replace it and also look to see if you have anything that is draining the vehicle battery. If you have solar you can fit a Vanbitz battery master to keep your vehicle battery topped up.

If it's losing that per day, and less than three years old, have you tried disconnecting it over a weekend, to check you haven't a parasitic load? In my experience some aftermarket extras pull enough to flatten it over a few days , eg USB sockets, sat navs, android head units.
Three years is very short, but modern battery performance does seem to drop off a cliff when it's dying, even if they usually last 2-3 times longer than batteries did 25 years ago.

My starter battery is over 9 years old 🤞 looked after by an optimate at home and Votronic duo solar while away... I'm going for the world record 😜

Put your reg in here and it’ll tell you what battery you need plus they’ll deliver it to your door… a recommended company on here and a good price..👍🏼

Check over all the battery connections as well while you're at it, including earth straps. Many folk install an extra engine/earth cable as the originals can be a bit iffy. Bad connections won't help the recharging either.

I don't know where you're located but I have a spare 95AH starter battery in my garage. If you're relatively local to the Solent or on my way to Devon next week and are interested, send me a PM.

Got 95ah on my Ducato JTD. 70ah does't sound right.
