enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
I have my vehicle battery wired directly to my Votronic MPPT output (for vehicle battery)
I also have a Vanbitz battery master that I haven't fitted yet ...

Should I remove the MPPT connection and just insert the BM instead ? Is there any advantage either way?

I could ask, as you have the starter battery supported by the Votronic regulator why have you got battery master? I could think of some scenarios but wondered what your rationale was.

In my mind the BM is if there is no trickle charge to the starter battery from the solar. In your case there is so leave it as it is.

I use the Votronic MPPT to charge my Leisure batteries and trickle charge the starter battery. It has been working well for 5 years so why change yours. I also have a similar device to the BM and use it to charge my Suzuki scooter in the garage and a small jump starter unit. I have connected it via a switch so it is only used when needed/wanted.

You may ask .....

when i was starting my 'upgrades' i bought a few things i 'thought' i might need, then i bought a newer van and also bought things i might need

so i have accumulated quite a few things, some of which i have sold, others i have kept 'in case'

i am now looking at having another clear out of a Vanbitz BM, a Sterling BM (which i had forgotten i had), a Sterling DC to DC charger (which i am tempted to keep ...) - so i just wanted to make sure there wasnt a reason i hadnt thought of to keep them.

i suspect i am not alone in buying things and then not using them or realising that they arent needed after i have bought something else ..

I've posted this before.....
You will need to check your charger manual, but , most of the solar dual chargers only dribble 1amp to the starter battery and then only once the hab battery is fully charged so you won't actually get much charge to the starter battery at all, especially in the winter....
My doesn't supply sufficient to the starter battery to offset the alarm use so if you do decide to sell the vanbitz BM I would be interested in it 😉

You can set how much power you want to go to engine battery and leisure battery usually on thd solar controller, mine happily charges both set to 90% and 10% respectively

My MPPT is a Votronic 250 - having checked the specs it trickles at 1, whereas the Vanbitz trickles at 1.1A

What controller do you have?

Is there a maximum wire "guage" to wire in the battery master, could I use the brown wire from a domestic extension cable(3m) length from hab to vehicle ??

Over the weekend I was clearing stuff out and found my sterling BM. It charges at 3 Amps, so much higher charge than the Vanbitz BM or the Votronic MPPT...... Is it worth changing from the MPPT to the Sterling?

Whereas the CBE Battery Manager, charges the starter battery up to 4.0A, which served us well on the Hymer. (y)

Cheers,

I suppose the question is “how much power do you need” we have never needed more than the BM provides.

We've got the CBE alternative to the Battery Master too, and been very happy with it. Fit and forget! (y)

If its working OK leave it alone if you want more charge I wouldn't use a BM an Ablemaile Battery Maintainer works better with Lithium.
