Van Salesmen

Wayyyyyyyyyyyy back in time I wanted to replace our aerial riggers vans ( a motley collection of old BMC and Ford ) with something new

Looked at the Escorts ( expensive ) looked at the Viva's.. made of baked bean tins and oh so very basic... Then was invited to test drive a Moscovitch
WOW ! Cheapest one, fully lined walls, wooden floor overlay, radio, carpets, an ally head on an OHC engine.. and built out of steel girders !
They were supplied with a two years parts and labour warranty, a years tax and the tanks filled!
They were not flash or fashionable but in the five years used, we had one issue.. a back axle whined.... which was sorted out with out hassle

If you think heated seats are an extravagant extra my car has massage seats to go with heating! I’ve used them once just to try them out, my kids love them and have tried all 15 settings!

I have just this minure received a mail from Autotrail telling of the amazing offer of this pack free if you early order an Autrail

mail

Sooo.... The air con is Fiat, the cruise control Fiat, the steering wheel Fiat, a spare wheel as an extra ?, cab carpet ( £30 from almost any where ) seat swivels... part of the design of the motorhome, reversing camera SHOULD be standard
To me, total added value by Autotrail, at best £50
I am a fan of Autotrail ( older ones ) but to be honest, this mail has ensured I will not be looking at a new van by them

Ah but they might give you all those lovely free gifts in a gift wrapped bag when you collect your new vehicle.......

Passenger air bags. As basic as it gets but still an extra for some manufacturers as they try to get their vehicles below a magic price point. Lunar were charging nearly £1500 "delivery" (don't know if they still do?) so what would happen if you offered to drive it to the dealers for them? I'm surprised that most manufacturers include wheels and an engine in the list price!
I was looking at a Lunar PVC and it was £ 60000 and that felt a bit dear especially the delivery charges. I found out that they buy from a retail dealer who buys through a distributor from MB uk so there were thre parasitic sellers in the string before me Biggerbody makers buy through MB direct . The delivery charges are Germany to UK and the dealer delivery and then delivery to Lunar, who charge it to you from their dealer so it builds up compound. I didn’t buy it in the end because of the charges from the dealer just up the road from the Lunar factory would not talk about dropping the charge for delivery to me.. also the damn thing had very tight weight limits.

Interestingly, Dacia score really well on reliability and satisfaction surveys..
The motor trade charge £150 admin for everything now, when challenged they say it is for admin and vehicle checks which cost them £25 for 5as traders.

Apologies, off message but same point
Harveys furniture store...£750 sideboard has an additional £59 “delivery” !!!

NO collection option
Hiw about ‘get stuffed’

Try demanding 'Dealers' to act as your Agent in acquiring a vehicle, or you are not buying

If they agree then they are bound by the Law of agency to act in your best interests in the transaction. Also you, as Principal, can demand that they show you all paperwork to justify any charges, as they are being paid by the Agent on your behalf.
