Hi all, my name is Peejay, I am a pensioner working just two days a week now. I drive a delivery van covering most of the North west( Greater Manchester to Banbury, Bradford to Liverpool. I deliver for a local printer. The van is a Ford connect restricted, like MH's, to 50 mph, what a drag !!! It is when you are doing 200 miles a day!
don't own a M H or caravan, never have done. I am trying to save for WildAx.
I would appreciate ANY help from you all. I want a van conversion, two berth, but my wife is just not into this M H way of life( do I insure her and contact Arnti).
I find this web site very informative and friendly, PLEASE prove it to me. What do I look for in a MH? Thanks :thumb:

The first thing you might like to know is that to my knowledge Motor homes are not restricted by any means other than National speed limits, check out the Motorways any Friday night
you may even see me doing 65 MPH+ in a 7.5 ton American Sundays we drive slow cos we don't want to come home
Panel van conversion?? any particular reason. if its parking and access problems you have little choice, minimum requirements for me are, as well as the obvious eating and sleeping arrangements would be a toilet on board too:thumb:
Get your self and the wife over to one of our meets just for the day, come in the car, we specialise in converting wayward wifes into motorhome desiring partners
By the end of the day she will be eager to join you in your new hobby

Very difficult question, there are as many different motorhomes as people. What is right for one another would hate

Only way to find out is to look at as many as possible, (like women) and see what appeals, some do some don't.

i agree with Geos post......no speed restrictions for motorhomes unless you are towing a trailer but that also applies to cars as well.

then its 50mph on single carriageways and 60mph on motorways and dual carriageways.

Sorry pappajohn, any car derived "vans up" to 2 tonnes max laden weight is 60 mph.Anything over is 50, please, please say I am wrong then I can have my 3 piont removed----beware the Whitchurch(salop) bye pass

firstly peejay,

your transit connect is not a car derived van....it was designed and built as a light commercial vehicle.
there is no car equivilent to it. so now you can get the points removed...yeah! rightoh:

have a look at the attached chart from the gov website.

note the goods vehicle under 7.5 tonne part which covers motorhomes AND your van.

motorhomes are usually classed as private goods vehicles

edit....apologies peejay....i was looking at motorway speeds.

Thanks Geo, I was meaning a 50 mph on single carrageways, 60mph duel, and 70motorways.
Thanks for your advice, I shall have to get a van then get to a rally, other than that I can go where I want when I have'nt got a co-pilot!!?
I want a van conversion to be able to get to some wild camping in North Wales, (very mean with tarmac the Welsh) Although having said that my son-in-law has a cottage in a very, very rural part of N Wales and council have just re-done the 2 miles of road up to it.

My connect van is only just over the 2tonnes limit, hence the 3 points-----doing 59 in a 60 limit ( ignorance is bliss) And I though I was being a good boy!

It is very important that your Vehicle Registration Certificate, (V5C) shows that your vehicle body type is recorded as a MOTOR CARAVAN in section D.3 Not camper or Motorhome.

Any other description is not suitable and can lead to all sorts of confusion especially where the law is concerned.

As a matter of interest my V5C shows the Gross Vehicle Weight for my vehicle as 0Kg. The V5C was issued by DVLA on 22/02/09 so is up to date!!

Wonder how I would get on in the LEZ

With us it was the other way round. I was the keen one. Our first show meet at Stratford introduced us to a friendly bunch of characters in the MH fun area, and we were hooked!
