Would anyone know the answer..
I am travelling in Ireland with a Portuguese LHD camper, the inspection test will be up while here,.
if I get it done in an Irish test centre will that be valid in Portugal, or will I have to get it done again on arrival back in Europe.

Is testing in one EU country valid in all EU countries.

I believe that the test needs to be done by a technician certified in the county of registration of the vehicle to be valid.

If that is correct then any test you have in Ireland is of no value other than a personal view on the condition of your vehicle.

Has to be done in country of registration and it has to be valid when driving in another country.
You need to go back to Portugal to get it tested before it runs out.

Our MOT would have been up when we were in Europe so we got it done a few weeks before we left home.

Yes but in Portugal.
Also I believe that Portugese rules are similar to Spain in that if you do not have an up to date vehicle test then the "permiso de conduccion" certificate ,allowing you to circulate on the roads ,becomes invalid also ,which then means that your vehicle insurance would revert to basic road traffic acts only.i.e it pays out for third parties & not for your own damage
