Begun travelling the road in our first van in 2013
Hi, I have both German and French cylinders which were brought in their respective countries and used on our van with the relevant pigtail adapters etc. We now have a Gaslow refillable system so the two cylinders are redundant for using in the motorhome. What I would like to do is use the gas within them to fuel both a portable wok burner. I am struggling to identify what fitting I need to connect my UK propane adapter to the two different styles of cylinder valve. Any clues or tips gratefully received guys.

I use a German bottle with a 21.8 to pol fitting, can be bought from Hamilton gas or me as I have a couple spare.

Hi Bigtree, that sounds exactly like what I am looking for (to suit the German cylinder). I guess I will also need a different size to suit the French bottle, they appear visually different so I can only imagine the German sizing won't suit the French bottle. Can you ping me an idea of cost for one of your spare brass adaptors please, postage to SL7 3NJ. Many thanks.

Good luck finding somewhere to fill them.
Once they see an adaptor I reckon they won't turn on the pump.

Shame I’m not heading your way next week, going down the M1to Canterbury. I’ll do it posted for £10 if you want to message me.

If its a French Propane bottle, the chances are that the same 21.8 Pol will screw directly onto that outlet as well.
Can't obviously tell without a confirming photo of bottle.

Don't understand why you need anything if you used them in your van with the relevant fittings , can't you just use them outside of the van?
We have a french one that we bought with the fitting, when we got it home we connected to a barbeque in the garden by just pushing the hose on..

No mention at all of filling them !!!
Just wants to use up the gas inside rather than being left or wasted 👍
Exactly that, seems a real shame not to be able to empty the cylinders purposefully given the price of Calor these days 😬 I’d say the French cylinder is approx 2/3rds full 🫣 and the German one probably half full. Once spent I’ll take them back out to their respective countries and pass the empties back 😊

Well, the German pigtail for instance, the fitting on the free end is at best only suitable for connecting into the onboard regulator, and it's a fairly short pigtail so even if I cut that end off and remake the connection to suit, it makes if very awkward to site the cylinder where I think I would want it. I was really just trying to find the best way to safely use the propane.

I realise that but wouldn't a longer pipe fix it?

Hmm, yep, although I wasn't really wanting to spoil the German Pigtail, but in saying that, I'll probably never need to use it in a van again. The fittings are all machine crimped and once I start cutting into the hose they are going to be U/S ...... "undecided now"

This is a ❓ because I don't know the answer.
Don't you need a regulator to reduce the pressure down to a useable level????

When i had a number of calor butane to use up i used them till empty then switch to galow and then next part filled cylindar. Why not use your part filled cylidars in the van.

Really not wanting to frig around with the pipework integrity on the Gaslow installation. It's gas tight and that's how I'd like it to remain. I have several propane appliances which we use in the garden for cooking up on, and it would be nice to use the gas and then be able to return the empties when we next travel to the EU.

As bigtree said earlier this POL adaptor will fit both the French and German cylinders, although not strictly speaking correct for the German KLF G12 it does work ok as the washer is quite large.

Glad you were able to confirm that as I am expecting a little package in the post soonest from bigtree :)

It worked fine on my German bottle until I got Alugas. 😁

The existing pigtail you have can also be used to attach an adaptor to calor butane. there is no need to frig about with the original pipework.

Perfect result! Thanks to bigtree for the very fast response. The adaptor arrived as promised this morning and it fits both the French and German cylinders as stated. Hot Wok cooking is back on the table!!
