I've realised that the factory-fitted alternator charging system on my Compass Avant Garde 194 is rubbish (Smart alternator and BCA Lin50 PDU) so I'm going to install a Victron B2B in the next couple of weeks. I've also noticed that the 20A EHU power supply (BCA PS277) fitted is only rated at 13.8V which as I understand it is not much above float voltage for charging an AGM so is also pretty inadequate as a charger.
So as to charge the AGM properly when on EHU, is there some way to run the B2B (with current setting dialled down) from the EHU power supply or should I just add a separate 3 stage mains charger?
(Incidentally, I do know that the mains power supply in the PDU and not the battery, powers the 12V hab loads when on EHU)
Just wondered what others had done
Thanks
Edit: On reflection this is probably a stupid question
Ive just realised that if the B2B is working properly when running on alternator I would probably arrive at a camp site with a pretty much fully charged battery so float charging the battery while the PDU supplies the hab 12v probably isnt a bad arrangement after all.
