Hi,

Is there such a thing as a used motorhome price guide that you can get for motorhomes? Something like the Parkers guide for cars, that shows the average price for a specific vehicle based on age and mileage.

I have seen lots of motorhomes for sale but haven't a clue if they are priced correctly.

thanks
Chris

:? There are lots of variables. Like: -
Owner DIY "upgrades", frequency of use (full time v weekend trips), location of trips (I'm thinking of seaside & salt water v inland).
Storage type for the downtimes, etc.

Cars generally have fewer of the above variables, right?

Ok understood. But is there a list somewhere of new prices e.g. what the list price of a certain MH was in say 2011? I just want to know that i am not paying more than the original list price.

What I normally do is find another motorhome for sale (ebay, Mobile.de, Autotrader, Monthly mag classifieds etc) same year or close, similar mileage and compare prices biasing for any additional extras.

Would a depreciation of £2k a year from new be a good guide. More if its trade in price.

the motorhome market is very strange and follows no specific rules. Some vans depreciate rapidly for the first few years then retain the current value for a few years. Look at hymers for instance, once down into the £20,000 to £28,000 region, they seem to stop depreciating, with some models being so desirable that they actually go up in value some years

Then you have vans like Elddis which seem to plummet in value after the first few years. Or autotrails that have to be massively discounted on the forecourt to sell new. Large stocks of brand new last years models just sit rusting and leaking

The motorhome / campervan dealers have a book they work from for secondhand buying in prices but not normally available outside the trade. Recently we were thinking about downsizing to a panel van and the three dealers we rang all quoted the same trade-in price after being put on hold whilst they looked it up. They all used the words - book price or trade in price - during our conversations.

Personally I think they make it up! Having been told that My truck is worth 30k from one company and another 44k I really dont know where they get their information from? I just paid in July 55k for my truck.....Now to be told 34k????? What a joke! It comes down to what they want to trade on i think?
Obviously ....Mine was not to their liking! A glass's guide is available but take it with a pinch of salt!

Talk to the company who is selling a truck you like and push like crazy to get the best possible result.

It does work....we know !

Not sure what difference that makes to your purchase decision

Just what I was thinking the value of anything is what someone will pay for it and not a lot to do with what the seller paid.
I quite agree. Some well made and meticulously maintained older motorhomes with good reputations will sell for close to or over their original sale price. Because that is the value that buyers attribute to a quality product.

Not just that if there's a trend like there was and maybe still is to swap to say pvc,s their used price will probably hold up better as there will be fewer secondhand available.
