Accepting that the use of an ordinary coal fired BBQ is forbidden / frowned upon outside in most of the southern regions of Europe, what then is the sentiment towards gas fueled BBQ units please and / or cooking outside in general? Or with the spate of wildfires over the past years are BBQ's etc becoming obsolete?

I asked at one of the campsites we stayed at in Croatia recently and the answer was gas yes, coal no. Has to be said it was a heavily wooded campsite so a sensible move.

Depends where you are, most sites will be fine with a gas BBQ or cooking outside , best to ask.

Our local Forestry Commission picnic site have a blanket ban on any BBQ .. coal or gas, but understandable when you see picnic tables scared and burned with disposable BBQs used on them, makes me sad and mad that 'people' do this, the same people who destroy grass with open fires..

They are certainly not becoming obsolete.. I use my gas barbie on nearly all the sites and aires i visit .
