I need to replace a circular twin 12v usb socket that’s been damaged . Pretty sure I can wire it up myself but looking for recommendations on makes as I’ve heard some stories of them over heating etc . Comments appreciated

In the hab area , through some the plastic trim - which I’ve worked out how to get access to

Check the hab fuse box. Mine works if I take the fuse out and push it back again! I must get a new fuse!

I've just been putting a few of these in. They are QC3 so probably better than the one you are taking out
QC3 USB socket

Maybe worth considering if you need both USB A and USB C to future proof with many modern devices that have 'C' type. There are replacements with one of each.

My new van has the C type on the dash as standard.

I've found the similar C type ones to be plastic though. The great thing about the aluminium ones is they don't overheat, the casing just gets warm. I'm not saying the plastic ones would.. But where does the heat go? 🤔

Thanks for these I’ve first got to contend with removing the panel to get the old one out , :-)

Following the EU directive for single type connectors, more and more products are using the USB C connector.

It’d be wise to have a socket with both types.

A supplementary question, has anyone found a qc3 socket that does not have led lights? They annoy Mrs asw19 and dont seemto add functionality.

ha! LED lights! At night I am going around the vehicle covering lights - Fridge, TV signal amplifier, Inverter, solar management, USB, TV itself - everything wants to glow in the night! It's like Christmas everynight. And so many of them are BLUE as well - you can get red USB (though I never found red QC3) which is better for sleeping but it's still intrusive! My latest attempt is to paint the LEDs on the USB with black hammerite (carefully and artistically) except for the switch so I can see if it is on or off. I haven't found QC3 without LEDs at a sensible price.

We have the same issue, sockets, CCTV camera, carbon monoxide detectors etc all have bloomin’ LEDs

So we put a small blob of Blu Tac over the offending lights

As an aside, check the output power on both sockets, sometimes the stated amperage is split between them or not equal on both sockets which makes charging slower.

Here's an example of a 1 amp / 2.1 amp, here's a more useful one, and this can fast charge two devices.
