I have my Hymer booked in on Wednesday morning for service and MOT. Routine check on lights etc this morning showed that I had a low level yellow side marker light out. OK I thought, no problem, ust change the bulb. No such luck!! It's an sealed LED unit.

This is what it looks like

No maker's marks. Looked at Amazon but can't find a match. Any ideas who make them and where I can get one from by Tuesday afternoon please. I am in the South East, but will be able to drive to get one.

I have a vague recollection that I was told a while back that side marker lights do not form part of MOT checks.

I may be wrong (as usual),in which case just ignore me!

I don’t know how you would check it.

I thought that as well.. but I did check the MOT manual, any lights fitted need to work..

On saying that, I have a white front roof marker light that doesn't work and didn't fail ..

As I understand it all fitted lights should be working. You must have got either a generous or lax MOT inspector.

Thanks everybody.

Guigsy The problem is that will not arrive in time, as it is coming from Germany. rosalan some with the Ebay ones are slightly different in sizes and detail. And again can't get them in time. Suppliers are in Bolton or Stoke, so too much of a trip from Kent.

gus-lopez As the Rolling Stones sung "You don't always get what you wanna" ;) Especially true when buying motorhome stuff.

scotjimland Ebay too slow. And none of the cheap ones are long enough to cover the screw holes from the old ones

I want to make sure that I get matching units. I can buys in 8s and 10s cheap none matching ones delivered by Amazon tomorrow for peanuts. (£10 to £12) But none of them are long enough to cover the screw holes left by the original, so not suitable in the long term. So I think I will order a bag of the cheap ones from Amazon and use ones as a temporary fix, and wait for a matching one.

Get a cheap one that'll arrive in time and hotglue it in place. Get you through the MOT. Then fit the proper one when it arrives.

Update. Found correct one on Ebay and bought it and paid for delivery on Tuesday. The cheapies are still coming from Amazon tomorrow, just in case Ebay fouls up. If the correct one arrives on Tuesday I will use free returns offer from Amazon to send the cheapies back.

Thanks to everybody who replied.

Was going to say Bolt on Bits sell them and do next day delivery. Wouldn’t be surprised if they are the eBay sellers you’ve bought from.

Yup, well spotted (y)

Good news is that they have confirmed parcel sent. Bad news is they are using UK mail, which have let me down before.

Well the Amazon cheapies came yesterday. The expensive Hymer one from Ebay arrived this morning. Checked it was working and fitted it, so all good for MOT tomorrow.

But there is a problem that I should have realised. Our Hymer is painted grey and it appears that the original marker lights are grey to match. The one I bought is bright white and now sticks out like a sore thumb.

Because of the grey colour we always use grey or black attachments on the outside. Looking at the cheapies they have a black surround and would be a good match. So should I change to them all round?? The only problem is they are shorter, but luckily one self tapper hole could be used but the other would be exposed. Only one small hole exposed for each fitting and I could fill with a dab of grey mastic.

So good idea or not?

I may keep the cheapies for a while and mull over now there is no urgency.

It looks like they are available in different colours. The one on Amazon is "light grey".

Could you paint the new ‘correct’ one in Hymer grey Peter?
Could but difficult to match well. Hymer call it Sierra Grey and it will be expensive to buy and a long wait. Asked before and you can't buy it in touch up tubes or rattle cans. And in my experience painting on plastic does not last for long outside even with the "correct" primer.

The existing ones never exactly matched the Sierra Grey, but now they are looking faded and patchy. Black looks OK with the grey as long as they all match.

Don’t panic. Side marker lights not part of class4 mot.

I had exactly the same issue, I bought some led bulbs from screwfix.com

Screwfix sell 12v led bulbs, I cut the sealed unit open with a hot flat screwdriver and changed bulb, sealed them back up and it went through the retest no problem, did all 4 for about £9 😄

Word of caution: my marker lamp needed changing not because lamp was out but because of no volts!
Turned out all the copper the length of one conductor in the Siamese pair leading to the lamp was black. No matter where I tapped in, and scratched the black away, there were no volts along its length despite being there at the beginning. I had to put in a 3 metre single to get the lamp to work.

Worth checking first.

First thing I checked was to make sure I was getting 12v there when the headlights were switched on.
