Afternoon all,

I'm strugling with water pressure in the van, not sure if its the pick-up from the fresh water tank, or the actual pump, so thinking of uprating the pump.

It's currently a shurflo trail king 7 - 20psi, (12v), but they do a trail king 10 which is 10.6 litres pm.

But, with the bigger pump comes bigger psi, and the choice is either 30psi or 45psi.

Has anyone upgraded the pump? and did you spring leaks everywhere.

Thanks in Advance

Siblo

Before thinking about using a higher pressure, check carefully that any water heating is designed to operate safely at that pressure. I know that the 20psi Trail King 7 was the correct match to my Truma 4e and that the 30psi version was not. Does sound like there is an underlying problem that you need to solve…?

I would take the time to diagnose the fault before changing the pump. If you go for a larger capacity and or higher pressure pump, and it appears to improve things, you will not know if that is because you fitted a new pump or just because you fitted an uprated pump.
If you suspect the pick-up pipe, simply attach a length of pipe to the pump inlet and drop the end in a large bucket/container. If it cures the fault you then need to investigate the plumbing, but if it makes no difference, then continue the diagnosis.
Poor flow rate/pressure can be caused by many things: sucking in air on inlet side, worn pump, dirty inlet filter, contaminated pump seals, low voltage at pump connections, incorrect pressure switch setting etc, etc.

If your taps have micro-switches you shouldn't have any problem with pressure as the pump only runs when th tap is open, so virtually zero pressure.

Thanks folks,

Tried the pump running in the shed with the pick-up in a bucket of water and wasn't happy with the flow. Stripped down and rebuilt a couple of times but got no better.

New 20psi pump arrived today, as said, not worth risking a higher pressure.

Just need to fit at weekend to see how it goes.

They are very sensitive to battery voltage but stripping the valves out doesn't help very often, need to check the motor current as the bearings do get tighter which again affects pump speed and hence output. The bearings themselves are cheap but can be difficult to extract also the oilite bush at the bottom near brushes can seize.
Do post as to how the new pump performs

It's a sureflo pump that works on pressure in system.. ie only comes on when pressure drops...open tap... pressure drops... pump starts pumps water flows ....shut tap.... pressure increases...pump stops..
It does not have microswitches in taps..
