AARRRGGGG....Up-Plating!
I know there are already lots of threads about uplating but it seems that something has changed (this year?) concerning going over 3500kg?

We would like to up-plate from 3500 to 3650 or as a paper exercise. I would have thought this is an easy exercise given that the original weight plate from Fiat shows Gross Weight as 3650 before being converted to a MoHo by Adria. It looks like Adria Down-Plated to 3500 when it got converted into a Motorhome.

I have just spoken to DVSA and been told that they do not have a "Technical Record" of the vehicle, hence I should use Form VTG1 along with a new Test Certificate (from HGV Authorised Testing Facility) to show its suitable for HGV Rating. This should be done before applying to Up-Plate above 3500.

My first question: is this required for a Motorhome or are we in a different category within HGV?

Concerning the process of Up-Plating (not Up-Rating) I'm told to use Form VTG10....
Does anyone have direct experience with filling-out this puppy? If so, would you mind me messaging directly.... I dont want to subject the MF Community to the pain!!

Many thanks

It is my understanding that mohos upplated above 3500kg fall into the PHGV (Private heavy goods vehicles) category and NOT HGV category.
Could this possibly be where confusion is coming from?

And I also understand that Form VTG10 is therefore not applicable.

Here’s the results from VWE:

  • Evidential Engineer's Report (my Engineering judgement and justification for approving the change in weight, and for issuing a replacement VTG6R)
  • VTG6R Design Weight Certificate (this is what says what weight your vehicle can carry)
  • Guidance notes (on how to complete your V5c)
  • Replacement metal chassis plate (designed with a self adhesive backing so there is no need to drill any holes in your vehicle).

Oki doki.. don't know if that good or bad... I don't really understand it
