UP-PLATING Burstner 726G

Hi all

I am hoping someone here can give me an idea if my Burstner Ixeo Time 55 Edition 2014 can be up-plated as a paper excersise? It is 3850 from the factory and I believe has some sort of Goldschmitt leaf spring upgrade on the rear axel. I have submitted an enquiry to svtech but thought i'd ask the experts on here for a guide? I understand that air upgrade would likely give me more options and I may look at that soon.

So what are you hoping to achieve weight wise ?
I have Ixeo 744, which was a 3,850 and I went to 4250 but that involved new tyres/ wheels and rear assist suspension .

If it's on an AL-KO chassis and you know the type then AL-KO can be helpful with the limits of weight.

If you’ve opened an enquiry with SVTech, just wait on their response. If you have provided all the information requested on their form, including chassis type (if AL-KO), suspension details, tyre sizes and load rating, wheel details, brake system, etc, they will get back to you in about 10-14 days. They will get back to you with suitable options, including any that require further modifications.

I’m just completing this process just now with them for my VW Crafter based Knaus. Currently plated at 3500kg, the options were 3900kg with no additional modifications (1800kg front, 2100kg rear axle weights), or 4100kg (rear axle weight 2300kg) once I had provided evidence of the VB air suspension assist that Knaus fit as standard. I have higher capacity wheels (1200kg v 1050kg) to achieve the higher rear axle weights.

SV Tech have charged £280 +vat after I accepted their terms and will supply a replacement ‘plate’ and paperwork to be submitted to DVLA

I've submitted a full enquiry with SV tech but having only found out yesterday that the rear axel is right on the 2000kg limit and we're due to go away in 3 weeks I'm now panicking to try and resolve....as we are I wouldn't be able to add any clothes or food in fridge...we have spare weight overall but really no option to shit much forward....I'm happy to get the air upgrade as it will bring plenty benefits but wasn't planning to do in such a rush....I'm praying that a paper exercise might allow even a rear axel uprate. We have the Ducato 16" wheels with 114/116 tyres so fingers crossed.....I've called SV to see if I can get an expedited response

I think your at your maximum without fitting semi air assist, also it's DVLA who will take the longest to complete the upgrade.

When I Downplat-ed mine it took just over a week- or it should have, I contacted them after 2 weeks
and they told me it had been done and I should get the new v5 in a few days.
8 days later the postman brought it with"not this address " written on . They had sent it to 43 instead of 48! Not a clue how they got the wrong number, but did change of address on line . Got it 2 days later.
So but for the mistake it would have bee just over 2 weeks.

If money not a problem,
Then get new /wheels rated to at least 1250 kg per corner / and new tyres rated 121/120and diy semi assisted rear suspension from online company . You could achieve this all in 3weeks , but wouldn’t have the paperwork or upplate in that time . So would have to take your chances you won’t get pulled but your safe but not legal ?

In mid February I applied to uprate, in March I rang them to find out what was happening and was told allow 4 weeks before contacting again. Eventually arrived on 12th although I'd applied to tax at the same time they backdated it to 1st of Feb.
Dealing with DVLA is like a lottery you have a slim chance of your application being dealt with by someone who knows what they are doing.

In 2014 I bought a Burstner Ixeo 726g 55 ltd edition, it came with a lot of kit which was normally extra, full leather, awning, sat nav and alloy wheels to name a few.
It was available as 3500kgs or 3650kgs on a light Fiat chassis, also it only had 15" wheels which leads me to believe yours must have already been uprated by a previous owner.
By the way £55,000 on the road.

We have a 2019 Burstner 736 A Class on the Fiat heavy chassis 16” wheels 120 tyres. Max standard 4500 kg or 4850 with semi air. Not the same van as yours but gives you an idea. Be guided by SV

How do you determine between a light/heavy fiat chassis? Also does anyone know if my wheels (attached) which are the fiat 16", are the ones rated to 1250kg? My tyres defo are 1250 rated.

On a separate note I've just ordered a mar-tech 5000kg airbag kit, which I will either fit myself or get my local garage to do the bags and I'll do the pipework etc....i was planning to have them fitted at some point for added comfort & safety but just wasn't expecting this shock weight issue just before our first planned long tour into Europe....luckily I have Flexi ferry tickets so may have to end up delaying if I can sort work out.

Fingers crossed SV tech will do me a favour and respond quickly.

Not sure if I'm reading load index charts correctly but 116 (single tyre) 1250kg....114 (twin tyre) 1180kg?

Interesting....I'm contemplating, but will do some moving around and see if I can shift some weight forward and how close I can get....if it was UK only I'd risk it but going France, Spain and potentially Portugal it seems mad not having stuff with us to enjoy our time, and as we're touring/hopping it's not gonna be practical to have all our gear rammed in the lounge area lol....always planned to have our folding bikes in garage which is another 42kg to add....

What's thoughts on getting the semi air fitted and SV paperwork then sending off to DVLA before we go and taking all the copy documents with us, do u think it might cut it over there if we got pulled

Yes that's right. Twin wheel rating is lower as if a fault on on one tyre the other wheel has to take the load so you have to fit higher rated tyres.

Update: SV say I can up-rate rear axel to 2240 with air-assist and current tyres whilst keeping current 3850 total. They can turn paperwork round in 7 days ISH and suggest if submitted to DVLA with copies of all docs that I would be technically legal in the UK but couldn't guarantee Europe. Airbags have arrived yesterday and should be fitted Wednesday so will see how we get on with the paperwork.

On our 2012 Aspire 255 (2012) we got 2240kg over the rear axle with 225/70/r15 tyres and semi air. Had to go up from 215/70/r15 to get the 2240 and 3850kg total.
