Absolute beginners.
Hello, not with standing unfavourable opinions as to the merits of this matter, has anyone fitted a 15" spare wheel lifter to a Fiat Ducato X250 with the Sawiko chassis extension rail upgrade? It's to go on a Sunlight T66 Fiat Ducato 2019. 2.3. 130.
The EBay seller was unable/unwilling to commit as to whether his kit shown below,
<Broken link removed>
would in fact do the job. I sent the same photos as those shown below.
To my mind the central cross member looks purpose made, but without catching sight of the kit in the flesh it's hard to tell!!
Regards in advance.
Mike

Hi Mike,
Looking at your first photo the hole above the mounting bolts is for the winder extension tool to fit through. I've a different make of chassis extenders fitted to my van but the hole is of a bigger diameter.Might be worth getting in contact with the makers. As for removing the spare wheel just drive up your levelling ramp to gain extra height. Good luck.
Alan
Here is the mockup of the winder mechanism on a cross member. Does this help
The central hanger is held by 4 bolts in an arrangement very simular (pos the same) as your central picture.

Many thanks, yes I had seen that mock up photo previously. The photo forms part of a story board , also showing some hand made brackets that he attached to the chassis rails, so very similar, and possibly a workable solution.
Regards.

Your issue may be getting enough room to get the wheel draged out from under the vav enough to undo the part that locates onto the centre of the wheel
Its not that easy even on a PVC and the wheel is close to the very rear of the van
If you have the space fabricating brackets for the winch and winder shouldn't be that hard
A look under a PVC would give you a good idea what is needed

I’m sure techno will be along shortly to give his view/advice on the mater. I’ve copied his method and fitted one very similar to our van, but Techno’s design was on an Alko chassis. Looking at your photos, yours should bolt straight onto the crossbeam on your van, assuming that you have the clearance. As others have said, it’s getting the wheel from under the van when you have to.... so I’ll just leave it to green flag breakdown if we ever need to.

As previous mails have said, the issue will be removing the spare when a road wheel has had a puncture. You then have to jack up the van to change the wheel.
When I greased the torsion bar in my Alko chassis mh I used a garage type 2T trolley jack to raise one of the rear wheels off the floor. I had to use most of my weight to pump the jack and that was on a flat drive way. I certianly would not want to do it next to a busy road or motorway. Easier and safer to phone up the recovery company to change the wheel.

Looking at you first photo the black section near the torsion bar is where the winder mechanism fits so I’m not sure you would be able to fit this system.

Not a great photo but mine sits well back from the extension rail unless they have changed the design from 2014.

Looking at my photo again I think it must of been moved when I had the towbar fitted 2 years ago because I don't think it looked like that when I originally fitted it almost 7 years ago but it works ok and wouldn't be without it after having a damaged tyre at the very top of Norway.

Many thanks for all the comments. None of the Ebay listings would give a definitive answer as to whether their product would fit.
I'll scramble underneath at the weekend, [ weather permitting ] and take some measurements.
I might try Fiat UK commercials, if there's such a beast, they should know right ?

They are designed for PVCs
It's pot luck if they will fit anything else and likely you will need to make up brackets etc

Hi Mike this picture shows where the winder mechanism fits I think your chassis extensions would be in the way 👍

Thanks 10, yes I see what you mean. I'll rethink that. It's good to have the spare, and certainly something you want to be looking at, rather than for, but it just makes loading the scooter a little tricky. It might have to be scooter rack on the back, in time.
Regards.

I have a spare wheel AND the carrier, never fitted as I changed vans if you're near to Clacton any time, you're welcome to 'test' it to see if it fits?
