Unavailability of gas bottles

Applegarth Nurseries outside Chipping Norton on the Banbury Rd sell 6kg Calor. I bought one there three weeks ago. Give them a ring: ‭01608 641642‬

I'm lugging a 6 KG & 13KG Calor Propane about in my garage. One is full the other partially used.

They are in Cardiff and free, or a donation to Jim's Hardship Fund, to anyone who wants to collect from Cardiff.

I might be able to deliver, depending on your location.

hey are available because I fitted a refillable system.

Would anyone mind saying how long their 6kg bottle lasts when used for fridge and stove?

Propane gas bottles appear to be like rocking horse Pooh atm can’t find one in 6, 11 or 13 kg calor, or flogas new or 2nd hand, I bet there are loads at the back of garages and sheds up and down the country, so frustrating.
We’ve got a few at home
6kg and patio gas
Might get them listed on EBay

About as long as a piece of string!
How much do you use the cooker? Just one ring to boil a kettle and then eat out/ have salads, or do you do casseroles and roasts?
Which fridge? You can look up its gas consumption in its manual or online.

Called to buy new bottle today also. Told they could exchange but no new ones as calor won’t replace, just exchange. National shortage for about a month got told. Luckily uncle had a spare full one we will replace when are one empties.

I’ve got two 13kg Calor Gas cylinders, which are empty, free for the taking, here in St Albans. :gum:
HI SuperMike, I would love to take them off your hands if you still have them. Al.

I'm looking for a 6kg, if anyone has one going spare in the Northampton area.

Fair enough will check fridge consumption. Am hoping to go off grid, but gas consumption is key. Thought I had new 6kg bottle, used fridge 1 day (24hrs) and boiled kettle 3 times.......empty :(

In that case it certainly wasn't full.
I heat up dinner of some sort on two hobs (say 20 mins) and make about 10 cups of tea a day and run the fridge. No cooking for breakfast or luncheon. My 6kg cylinder lasts about a week.

Local tip is best option
My local tip will not sell or give out any bottles that arrive there. When deposited there they become the property of the tip owner (Local Authority?) and the staff risk being caught for theft if they try and sell or give them away.

Yes still have them, they are in the for sale (free) section.

No as bad as trying to FIND LPG. Glad we have LPG tank and Calor gas. Bottles.

Turn your fridge down, Dometics run better at about 5 o’clock setting. They are thirsty beasties
Also a fan at the back of the fridge will make it more efficient.
Keep the freezer full of freezer blocks or bottles of water it acts as a cold sink.
We get about 4 days in really hot weather.

not had a problem at a small garden centre near me.
and got a couple of new ones last week.

ERm NO :)

Been phoning my go outdoors for 4 weeks running to get a 3.9 kg refill. They have the best prices around. Calor, main depot in Southampton about 300 yards away on same road, but limiting supply to go outdoors and probably everyone else. I telephone every Friday as that is the delivery day,but no joy. First time in 8 years had this problem, so assuming a lot of bottles sat in peoples garages. I think some people
May have become preppers during covid and in the lead up to brexit, and may have looked at alternative methods of backup heating, cooking etc. I certaintly did, in terms of food, medicines, lighting, batteries, loo rolls etc. I started to purchase additional stuff in about july 2019. So maybe a bit far fetched, but im assuming i wasnt the only one. Now im working my way through about 300 tins of food, lol.

When buying second hand bottles with gass in, don't forget gass goes off and will clog things up

Popped into our local caravan agents yesterday on the way back from our first trip away in Brunhilde. 'Gas refills 6kg are £24.95 and £26.95 but we have none in stock at present' [there was 1 x 6kg in the cage but not worth arguing the point ...].

I agree there are loads in sheds etc. I have 13 that I don't need, varying from 15kg down, why don't Calor just give a fixed fee (no paperwork) for returning a unwanted cylinder I'm sure the shortage would soon end

Perhaps because they do not want to buy stolen goods.

they do £7.50 a bottle if I remember right.

If Calor didnt rip people off with a low buyback price there wouldn't be a problem.
Simple solution is for Calor to offer a sensible buy back price and thousands would appear from the back of garages and sheds.

I managed to buy one by putting an advert on the village Facebook page. Found a bloke who had just sold his caravan so he had one for sale - sorted

Have 2 x 6KG one full and one 50%+ is anyone is stuck (moved to 11kg flogas)

I've just had a 6kg one delivered by flogas (I have an account), they don't seem to be suffering from any shortages like calor are.

Two (ish) weeks ago they told me they were only doing exchanges but had a big delivery of steel due and expected to be back to normal in a couple of weeks. That said 11kg still not available online though they were taking phone orders.
