WV TROPHY
hello,

I live in outer London, soon to be included in ULEZ, and have a VW trophy, diesel, 1994. I understand that I'm liable for the ULEZ charge due to the age of the camper, but apparently my charge is £100/ day and not the standard £12.50. Looking on transport for London's website, it says vans over 5 tonne are liable for the higher charge, but mine is 2.6 tonne, so I don't understand why the higher figure applies. I've phoned and emailed them, but they're really difficult to deal with and answer questions that are not the one you asked!

Does anyone have any idea why this charge may apply, or if not, is there a difinitive source where I can find out what category my van is in and why?

many thanks
cath

I've just looked up my old 1993 VW Transporter on the TFL website and that looks to be the same as yours. The reg was K618 BUJ if you care to run it through the TFL website you can check.
Simple answers to your problem.
  • Change the camper.
  • Move to a more sensible part of the UK.
Sorry,

What justification can they possibly have to charge that per day?

Because they are thieves, and that is what thieves do. They rob the innocent, using their greed and jealousy as justification.
Best way to avoid being robbed by the London Mayor is to move to Essex, Surrey, Kent, Herts, Bucks or Beds.
I know this doesn't help the OP, but if you live in GL, you are gonna get robbed simply for living.

Our charge is £300 per day. Robbing ..........
They (masked men) are sniping the cameras around us as well. Khan should be looking to combat knife crime rather than ULEZ.

That dopey Khan will be gone next May with a bit of luck and replaced by someone sensible.

Why don't we do it like Germany? The only cost is incurred if you break the law and enter a Green Zone without the correct Umweltplakette so it's not a profit making exercise by local authorities!

Here are their rules Driving in Germany: Green Zones

By the way if you need a Umweltplakette the place to purchase is the Berlin authority where you will only pay 5.95€ posted to you in the UK.

I hope so. I had hoped he would have gone last time. I don't know anyone who voted for him.
It’s a strange one he possibly has the vote rigged by the local mosque who collect the voters forms and fill them in for them who knows, maybe that’s why photo I’d has been introduced when voting?

You can only get a green Umweltplakette if your vehicle meets the green plakette criteria. If your vehicle does not, then you cannot enter the (currently) 56 Umwelt zones. If you do (and this includes foreign cars) you can be fined up to €100. So it's pretty much the same as London, but also the same in about 56 other German towns/cities.

Exactly, simples, no sticker no enter!
They are not trying to make a fast buck out of it by making it a purchasable option and I know from the experience of a friend who didn't know the rules the German police often let foreigners off with a warning and told to get the vehicle out of town.

Whomever replaces him, may promise to drop the ULEZ charges, but once they realise that actually Khan has not gone far enough, they will have to introduce even more stringent limititations/costs.

I suspect the Tories don't really want to actually win that election, as it's much easier to criticise from opposition than be in the driving seat and have to deal with reality.

You could be right 🤣 fortunately I have never had the need to venture inside the M25 since selling up, and can’t see that altering in my lifetime.🙂

Frankly, I can't see Khan losing next time out either.
But this isn't the Belly Locker, so I can't say why.

What is the point of ULEZ in the UK, was in the news yesterday that last year China had increased its Carbon/pollution output by more than double the UK's current figure, that's on top of what they already produce thus negating any proposed decrease in the the UK's output and making 2035/2050 targets futile, as a comedian recently said if the UK sank into the North sea world pollution levels would not change one iota but then Khant wants to hurt the motorist with yet more stealth taxes, I feel sorry for folks living in London and the other cities following Khants lead and I for one will not enter said places or the Welsh ones introducing tourist tax, plenty of other places

I'm curious what you mean by 'Khan hasn't gone far enough'?
