Still getting there.
I have acquired the necessary UK sticker along with those for covering the EU bit of the number plates.
Is there a right and wrong place to put the sticker at the rear end of the van?
I was thinking of putting it on the valance adjacent to the rear light cluster. Yes or no?

In the summer I saw people sticking it on the side of their cars and vans.

I don’t think anyone cares to be honest as it’s a bit of a nonsense anyway.

It just needs to be visible. Ours is magnetic which is lucky as I put it on the back near the lights and then realised the bikes would completely cover it ! We now have it high up on the left on our PVC.

Replace your number plate instead with a compliant one. I don't like stickers. They destroy paintwork.

I would prefer a magnetic one but my rear panel is aluminium (coachbuilt). Nothing magnetic to put it on.

It will always be a U.K. plated vehicle so stick it on permanently.
it is a requirement for travel in non U.K. countries.
Why the debate? The OP asked where to put it.
Answer is so it’s always visible from the rear.

Mines about in the line of sight for a car driver on the rear lift so Johnny Foreigner can see it easily.

Mines magnetic, On our last trip I had on upside down most of the time :D. That really gets them looking and scratching their heads

I have my GB one on the left of the rear numberplate and the UK one to the right.

I'd recommend having it on the left hand side of your vehicle so it can be seen more easily by folk overtaking. Either at number plate height or slightly higher.

If you want to be legal you still need a sticker for Spain & Malta.
As I said taken mine off it was Spain where people kept asking where we were from.

My understanding is that it is supposed to me fairly close to the registration plate, left or right does not matter I gather.

Followed someone yesterday with bikes on the back with a UK sticker but obscured by the bikes. As to paint damage, what paint gets damaged by stickers if properly attached and removed. The only damage I have experienced in the past is slight fading but that was a long time back. When i replaced the obsolete GB for the UK there was no evidence of any damage that I could see.

Fine in France, but as far as I understand it the UK numberplate stickers are not legal for Spain (or Malta?). You need a separate sticker.

Nobody cares, we've just done a 3000 mile trip around Europe without one and not asked once, even Tuesday when I was filling up next to a French police van.

I purchased the smallest UK sticker I can find which was from Halfords, have to say the size of some of them are almost a full wrap and darn ugly left (near side) is the place to stick the sticker

I'm 4½ ton and don't have one.

They should be on the left as you look from the rear of the vehicle. Everywhere except Spain a numberplate uk marking is fine.

Find it amusing when driving in Europe at how many with PVC vans have the Angle Mortes stickers on😁😁

I’m not having one a) I’m not going to France. b) If they can’t see my van they shouldn’t be on the road!

There are PVCs over 3.5t - in fact most of them probably should be despite the manufacturers' claims. :)

Gov.U.K. Just says “ clearly on the rear of your vehicle”. I have just checked as if I’d done what you said it would have been obscured and therefore a bit pointless. It’s all pretty pointless anyway of course:giggle:
