Hi,

We bought our 2008 Apache in 2020. It came with https://www.tyron.co.uk/ fitted. As I'm thinking of putting some new rubber on the vehicle I wondered about keeping or dumping the Tyron devices. I'd welcome thoughts on this.

I knew nothing of these devices before we bought the MH.

cheers

For a start tyre fitters don't like them;) as I understand it the Tyron band is designed to fill the wheel well and stop the tyre coming right off the rim if you have a flat, they were fitted to caravans a fair bit. I might be tempted to dump them (especially if the tyre fitter was kicking off) and go for Tyre-Pal.

Keep them I have not got any but may have soon.

the idea is to keep the tyre on in the event of a puncture so as to run on a flat for a very very short period while you look for a safe stop.

tyre fitters don’t like them as it is harder for them to fit the tyres. it’s a safety item.
having said it’s up to you but personally I would keep them.

if you have ever had a blow out your know why.

Tyre Pal is a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

of no use whatsoever ever with a tyre blow out..

Yeah, I get that. However, sudden and catastrophic loss of pressure is less likely than gradual pressure loss following a nail or something. If anything having both makes sense so you avoid being air-less but if it happens you have some protection.

I would keep them if you are interested in your safety in the event of a blowout. Yes, a lot of tyre fitters don't like them because of having to spend extra time removing and replacing them, but you can get the proper tool which comes in a plastic case which you can carry with you and lend to a careful tyre fitter. I had them fitted to our last van, and when I had to replace the tyres at our local fitter, he just about wrecked the wheel trying to get them off. I told him to not bother with refitting, and went to another fitter locally who removed and let me replace the tyres using the tool, which I had since purchased. He was that impressed with the tool, he then purchased one for his own use and has it in case he had other customers who had Tyrons fitted.
