Good evening all, Currently my Burstner Ixeo 674 is running on Continental vanco camper tyres, have always had grip problems on wet grass and have learnt to live with it however the lack of grip came to a head in a car park in the Lake District - slight up hill gradient to leave on a damp stony surface and I was going no where.

I was contemplating a change of tyres due to the hard ride from camper tyres and their age. From research on this wonderful site I have seen that I would get a better ride with van tyres rather than camper tyres. I have narrowed my choice down to two tyres - Continental 4 Seasons or Michelin Agilis Cross Climate. The question I have is which of these would give the best grip on grass and rough tracks.

Many thanks

Try taking some air out of the tyres if it’s a hard ride and from my experience with a Burstner van it was always light on the front end due to a long overhang on the back.

Look at the design of the tyres - those designed for snow have lots of little slits in the blocks, these aren't the best on grass. Grass needs more open tread blocks.

Yes I would agree that due to the overhang I have a light front. I have weighed my van and am just within the weight limits. I was hoping a change of tyre might just help.

The best answer I would have personally thought was to talk to a tyre company .
they we’re very helpful when I had a Nissan Navara. The back end was very light.

they advised me on tyres .

that’s my personal opinion only.

I reckon the Cross Climate is the way to go. Looks a heavy duty grippy tyre. I have the standard cross climates on an XC60 and they are the best tyre I have had in terms of grip noise and longevity. As people have been denigrating the Michelin Camper tyres for grip and harsh ride if I find the same when the new van arrives I might also change to them. Perhaps worth checking what pressure they are recommended to run at.

What pressures are you at, probably should be 3.0 to 3.25 bar front and 4.25 rear based on 16” wheels and front axle load 1500 to 1650 and rear 2000, made a difference to our van On the Continentals, pressures taken from their guide.

I’ve just fitted a pair of all season Vredstein for our trip to Spain. Chunky tread but remarkably quiet.

Try the YouTube channel John and Mandy, they have tyres that seem to get them anywhere, sorry but I don't know the make.

Your van looks a similar size to our Burstner which came with Vanco tyres on it, they seemed to me to be made of hard plastic and had a longitudinal tread pattern, more suited to perhaps a trailer ? I fitted Toyo winter tyres after being unable to get off three consecutive grass pitches when touring South Wales. We did need to get towed out at Chester one year, but most folk did and I don't think it helped as the hand brake was still on when we went to set off !

I wax lyrical about the cross climates we fitted to our Rapido. They are amazing tyres. Very grippy on grass as well as mud, extremely comfortable and quiet ride. Moreover, they retain their grip in the cold, which gives great reassurance in the winter.

Another vote for Michelin X Climates, have them on my T6, as soon as my Agilis's wear out on my Pilote A class, i will be having them fitted.

I changed from Michelin Agilis Alpin to Nexen Roadian after them being mentioned on here, very happy with them.
