Tyres... Quest for economy. quietness and good wear rate

Without Question, the best tyres I have ever had.

Michelin Agilis Alpin.

Run our Motorhome FWD and Sprinter RWD on them.

I have run the last three motorhomes on them.

The ones on my current Sprinter came off my last Sprinter. They have covered at least 40,000 miles.

Have you got recommended pressures for the Davanti tyres please? Front axle loading around 1900kg.
No mate... One reason is I do not go by recommended any way
I use the converters figures as a starting point and make small adjustments until it feels 'right'
My van is supposed to run 70 in the fronts and 50 in the rears ( tag )
I am running 62 in the fronts and have stuck with 50 in the rears

Not too harsh, good grip, and no tyre deformity

Ok John, thanks. What is the weight on your front axle, please? Just a rough idea will do.

You can use the Agilis Crossclimate on a camper, it is even a well recommended tyre. If you let your van without driving for periods of several months, than indeed only camper-specific tyres would do.

Went and had a look... I was miles out... its plated at 2100kg front axle
I think the 1800kg is what it was weighed at at Peterborough

I disagree.

Camper tyres are over rated.

Yes they are over rated and in many cases useless. They address just one case: long immobilisations.

Hi John and thanks for that. This van’s front axle is plated at 2100kg so same as yours. It’s been on a weighbridge twice and both times the front axle has weighed 1900kg, once when it was fairly empty and once fully loaded. So I don’t think it is ever going to differ much from that.

The Burstner manual suggests 65psi for ‘commercial’ tyres and 75psi for ‘M+S’, but that is for a load rating of 116. They don’t make any mention for upgraded tyres at 120/121.

The load rating is important as the side walls do not have as much give as the 116 ones.. I would try 62 or 3 lbs and see how you get on :-)

We run ours at 55 and know a couple who runs theirs at 50 . Just trial and error.

Hi Jaws could the list be posted please? Thanks.

DX440 - Looking now 👀
Sorry mate.. Copy righted by the mag the thing was run for
Really do not want to upset them as there is a whisper those who took part will be asked to do another test thing on something else

No worries, what magazine was it? Was it published or still a WIP?

It was a motorhome specific mag, which I believe has offices in the Peterborough area

Our Burstner it680g plated at 4.8 tons has Davanti 440DX on the front and are indeed excellent tyres. When the time comes to change the rears, at the moment Continental, they too will be Davantis. I get around 25 MPG average.

Interesting. Never heard of Davanti before but well worth considering next.
Im running a Fiat maxi PVC 4500kg on full air suspension.

I wonder how tyre wall stiffness varies between the 121 rated Davanti and the lower rated camper tyres like the Conti or Michelin?

Davanti made by Quingdao Sentury(sic) Tyre China and Thailand , Huge tyre makers in all areas Car, Commercial and Aviation

Hi John Jaws hope you & Family are keeping well mate.(y)
Trying to find a UK supplier of Davanti Tyres is proving difficult on Google, all the searches I have used for 225/75/R16 ....116 or 121loadings all searches have come up with every Tyre Make except Davanti.
I found what was shown as the Davanti website, it listed many tyre types but not the 440DX, but I put all the tyre info in the search box, clicked search, then all other makes of tyres were given with prices, but not one Divanti was listed.:banghead:

If someone has found a link to a supplier of Davanti Tyres giving a price, that allow fitting at a local tyre place, please let me know, cos I cant.
Maybe the 440DX has been discontinued now, which would be a shame as its always good to have a few Funster recommendations up our sleeve.
I dont need new tyres yet, but always check out the tyre threads to see options, my local Kwik Fit will not fit any tyres to the MH as they say its too big for their ramps, but whilst waiting for a tracking check on the car, I got them to give me a quote for two different tyres.
Sit Down...Ready?
1st was the Michelin Agilis Camping, 2nd (for a laugh) was The BF Goodrich K2 AT, 1st price was £220, 2nd was £164
But then they said " we aint in that Campervan market mate, as we cannot fit your van in here anyway"
Ah well, finding the tyre is one thing, but finding a place that can fit them may also be a challenge round here.
All the Best.

"the lower rated camper tyres like the Conti or Michelin?"

Uh-oh, someone went there.

Looking at 115 (minimum) I'm always looking at the PLY and if there is any information around reinforced sidewalls. I cannot find what PLY the Davanti's are, I would assume 10PLY. Problem is currently I want new tyres, I don't need new tyres. I am just tyre kicking currently. Forewarned is forearmed.
