For anyone that is considering this excellent safety product - the prices on TyrePal website https://www.tyrepal.co.uk/product-category/product/ at the moment are still the same as at the NEC February Show (y) although p&p is £4.96 extra.

Did ask about discount for Funsters so will email now to see if any further reduction or deal is possible - we've had a nasty cold bug since the Show so only just catching up.
We've upgraded to the Solar 4 on both car & motorhome (even though we have manufacturer fitted TPMS too) & are very happy with it & the feedback it gives for convenience & improved safety.

We are going to order 6 for our van if you want to make an order up.
Hope they work better than mine. When it works it is very good but I lose the signal from the inner rear wheels quite often

Maybe worth checking with TyrePal technical - perhaps you need something like this https://www.tyrepal.co.uk/product/smart-signal-repeater/ ?

@DuxDeluxe we noticed that with ours, like yours well less than 7 metres between unit and rear wheel sensors. It didn’t happen often, and usually when first started up. The heat settings can be a pain, you have to give a big tolerance in hot French summers.

Didn’t use the van after Easter last year due to health issues and while prepping for MOT I found one sensor had seized, and to get it off I had to use brute force with the expected consequence. To replace one sensor including P&P is £40.

I will probably replace the whole unit at this price as the new one uses solar, especially if we can get further discount, watching with interest.

Heard back today from TyrePal & the Show prices are the best on offer at the moment - these run until the end of the month.
We will have a 10% discount code for Fun & RVOC members from April onwards but with web prices reverting to normal that is unlikely to be better than the prices now.

Show prices are now being held until 14th April (y)

Bump - great safety device & if even just one accident is avoided as a result of a Funster fitting TyrePal then worth a few bumps.

I am considering these for a new Globecar but was interested to see that Tyrepal says that the sensors should not be used with aluminium valves - I guess due to risk of corrosion. The valves on our new van are aluminium.

Does anyone use these or similar on aluminium valves and do you have tips on how to prevent corrosion problems? I am wondering about using PTFE tape to minimise contact or perhaps only putting the sensors on when we use the van.

How difficult would it be to replace the valves with rubber stems and would they be as robust in the long term?

Any ideas are welcome.

Received mine yesterday, looks a nice bit of kit so will fit at weekend (y)

Thank you for pointing that out - hadn't spotted that & we are getting a Globecar too! Googled it & a bit more info. here http://tyrepal.com/do-external-sensors-corrode/

Do external sensors corrode?

TyrePal sensors are usually very resistant to corrosion, but we do advise taking some precautions to reduce the risk.
Where corrosion occurs
Corrosion occurs mostly where different metals are in contact in the presence of an electrolyte like salty water. TyrePal sensors have a brass thread, and this presents very little risk of corrosion when fitted to normal brass tyre valves.
Some specialised tyre valve stems are made of aluminium. We do not recommend using TyrePal external sensors with this type of valve as corrosion will occur where the different metals are in contact.
Sensor locking rings are made of aluminium to minimise weight, so these are anodised for protection. While the anodising is intact, there is little risk of corrosion, but if the anodized surface is damaged, contact between the aluminium and the brass of the sensor or the tyre valve will create a corrosion risk, especially during the winter when roads are salted.

Recommended precautions
  1. Put a small amount of WD40 or silicone grease on the locking ring and on the threads of the valve stem. This film separates the different metals.
  2. Remove the sensors once a month during winter to prevent bonding.
  3. Remove the sensors if the vehicle is to be unused for several months.
  4. Do not use the locking rings if the vehicle is being used in extremely salty conditions, such as a boat trailer where the wheels may be immersed in the sea.

@Wombles Well done finding that info - Thanks. It sounds like they need looking after anyway to keep them in good condition.

I think I will go ahead and order the Solar unit and treat the sensors carefully. I'll maybe switch the valves at some point in the future.

Bump - just a few more days before the website prices increase.

Thanks @Wombles I have just bought the solar version.

I have just purchased a TyrePal with six sensors for my tag axle van. Read all the instructions plus watched the TyrePal UTube video's, went about fitting everything and then set up the alarms. Brilliant, everything worked as it should. The great part of this story, my tyre pressure readings were all low, about 59/60psi, when they should have been about 75psi.... I double checked with a workshop calibrated pressure gauge and the TyrePal readings were correct. Really pleased I invested in the TyrePal system.

Great to hear all the positive feedback about this product & happy that a few more Funsters may be a bit safer on their travels now :hi5:

Please note Show offer prices end tomorrow!

I have the non-solar version and its very good and pressure readings seem accurate. As far as I know its only the receiver bit that is solar powered, you still need batteries in the sensors. The non-solar one needs a charge every month or so but not a big problem.

I have ordered and received the solar version, however having just weighed the sensor and its associated bits on postage scales, I am a bit concerned about the weight of the sensor bits at 13 grams its lot heavier then they suggest in their Faq's section, so would not ever consider fitting to a vehicle with rubber valves as the dynamic vibration of the valve stem caused by road bumps could seriously shorten the life of the valve stem and might even cause it to sheer off.
However as I have metal stems either nickle plated brass or steel, has anybody had wheel balance issues after installation?

Suggest contacting TyrePal - their technical help has always been excellent when we have had queries.
We have never had any issues with it as a product other than Mr Wombles forgetting where he had put the charging cable when it was needed but sorted now with Solar version :)

Bump - Show prices end tonight!

We got the solar colour...
It's very nice. Works as well as the old one.

The Show offer was meant to end today but still on (y) Perhaps it ends at midnight or maybe won't be changed until working hours on Monday.
